General Details
Name:  Bulldozer
Type (Category):  Equipment (Other)
Reference:  TechManual (p. 242)

Description:
Bulldozers are another piece of common commercial and industrial equipment. Essentially a shaped hunk of thick industrial steel with reinforced mountings, they enable a typical wheeled or tracked ground vehicle to literally plow through loose and semi-loose rubble. Obviously, their design and function are impractical for use in any walking machinery, including BattleMechs, IndustrialMechs and Protos, as well as aerospace vehicles and wet-naval craft. They are also fairly rare on Combat Vehicles, which usually have the armor up front to deal with a few piles of wreckage here and there. The odds are that a ’dozer-equipped unit encountered on the battlefield—Clan or Spheroid—is likely to be an industrial or engineering Support Vehicle.

Game Rules:
A bulldozer can clear a path through a rubble hex, allowing units to move through it as if traversing a clear hex. This process takes a varying amount of time, based on the type of structure the rubble represented before it was destroyed. Rubble from a light structure takes two turns to clear. Each heavier class of structure doubles the required time, so a medium structure takes four turns, a heavy structure takes eight turns, and the rubble from a hardened structure takes sixteen turns to clear.

A vehicle with a bulldozer can clear a rubble hex even if the type of vehicle the bulldozer is mounted on would normally be prohibited from entering rubble. While clearing rubble, the vehicle must remain in the hex, though it can make facing changes as usual. It can also make weapon attacks, though the vehicle is treated as if it were moving at Flank speed when calculating its attacker to-hit modifiers.

A bulldozer takes half the usual damage (round down) when it charges (it takes standard damage from being charged). Each time the vehicle takes damage to the location mounting the bulldozer, roll 2D6. On a result of 2, the bulldozer is destroyed.

Buildings: Double the standard charging damage against the target when a vehicle with a front-mounted bulldozer charges a building hex.

Special Unit Abilities
The special unit abilities described here are intended for use with the Alpha Strike rule system:
 Engineering (ENG)
A unit with this special ability can clear woods just like a unit with the Saw special ability. In addition, a unit with this ability can clear a path through rubble. It takes 1 turn for a group of 4 or more units with the Engineering special to clear a 2” long path of rubble, 2 turns for 3 units, 3 turns for 2 units and 4 turns for 1 unit.

An area cleared by engineering units does not actually change its terrain type; the clearing action simply creates a narrow, clear path through it that units may use to pass through the terrain as if it is clear.
