Description:
Another development dreamed up by the DCMS, the C3 Remote Sensor Launcher (C3RS) is a specialized variant of the now-familiar Narc launcher system. Intended to fill gaps in a damaged or incomplete C3 network, properly deployed C3 remote sensors can be a boon in battle, even though their reduced size, power and non-existent mobility limits their battlefield lifespan.

Game Rules:
The C3 Remote Sensor Launcher functions as a standard Narc missile launcher, except that the Attacker may only target a hex location, rather than another unit. Upon a successful attack, the launcher places a remote C3 sensor pod in the target hex that automatically activates in the following turn and functions as a stationary C3 Slave. The player launching a C3 Remote Sensor must declare the network to which the sensor will be slaved before the attack, and may not change this assignment once the sensor is deployed. A deployed sensor pod cannot expand C3 networks beyond the network size limits. Furthermore, because its computing power is limited, a C3 Remote Sensor functions for only 3 full turns after the turn in which it is launched. C3 Remote Sensors deployed while a network is “full” will have no effect.

On an unsuccessful C3 Remote Sensor launch (or a to-hit roll result of 2), the sensor pod is destroyed on impact. Deployed sensors can also be destroyed if any weapon capable of delivering more than 2 points of damage successfully attacks the sensor itself. (Attacking the sensor in this fashion applies a +2 to-hit modifier due to the sensor’s small size, as well as any standard terrain modifiers and the –4 immobile target modifier.) Critical hits to a C3 Remote Sensor Launcher’s “ammo” will cause 2 points of damage per unfired pod.

The C3 Remote Sensor system is incompatible with C³i-based systems.

Special Abilities
C3 Remote Sensor

Special Unit Abilities
The special unit abilities described here are intended for use with the Alpha Strike rule system:
 C3 Remote Sensor (C3RS)
A unit with this ability can deploy up to 4 remote sensors per game that will act as a stationary C3 Slave Computer (C3S) for one turn. Deploying the remote sensor requires a successful “attack” against a point on the map within the deploying unit’s Short range bracket (this attack receives a –4 Target Number modifier, cannot be made against another unit, and delivers no damage; if the attack misses, the remote sensor will fail to activate).

C3 remote sensors must be set to a specific network, requires a “master” unit to coordinate with, and cannot exceed the network’s maximum number of four active units. The remote sensor will only operate until the End Phase of the turn after its deployment. For this reason, they are often used as “backups” for destroyed or shutdown members of an active network, or as a temporary substitution for a shorthanded network.
