"It's on again!" a random patron shouted as he crowded around a portable holoplayer.
"Let me see!" another patron yelled. "I still don't believe it!"
"Well," the first patron said, "you better."
The two watched as the match was replayed. It started with a Banshee and a customized Wasp bearing the logo of Kraken's stable started facing off in Steiner arena. Try as the Banshee pilot might, the Wasp kept dodging all the shots and ducking around the barriers just in time. While the Banshee pilot struggled, the Wasp pilot kept moving his mech around to the rear to unleash its volley of lasers into the Banshee's back. Finally, after one volley there was a massive explosion and the mech pitched face forward, its gyro blown out.
"Nice victory if I do say so myself," a third person said from a few seats away. "Although I will probably not be invited back to Steiner arena any time soon."
The two patrons looked up to look at the third one. He appeared to be in his mid-twenties, and his garish choice of attire clearly demonstrated him to be an arena pilot.
"That was you?!" one of the two patrons yelled. "I lost a lot of money on that match!"
"And I got quite a bit of cash from the purse." He paused. "Tell you what. How about I smooth things over by buying *everyone* here a drink?"
"That'll work!" the second patron said. "Hey - free drinks on the arena jock!"

Kalo watched the holovid battle, somewhat suprised at how the Inner Sphere spend their spare time. He took a cigar out of his pocket and walked over to the man who had been the victor in that battle.
"Not bad, if you do not mind my saying so. Clever use of the barriers and your opponent's weakness. "
Kalo reached inot another pocket and brought out a lighter. He lite up the cigar and took a deep breath. He then offered another to Kraken.
"Cigar? I am curious as to how one would enter these arena battles. I need to see a little action before I am shipped off to Glory. Can you help me out?"

(nothing against you, but I didn't say I was there. K)
The mech jock looks up, politely refusing the cigar. "So you want to fight, eh?" He pulled a note card from one of his pockets and began to write before handing it off. "This here is the address to the place that regulates the stables and such. Do a little leg work, and you should find some people willing to hire new blood hanging around there. My group has a bit of a hiring freeze going on; we need to expand the bay before we can hold any more mechs."

Kraken my good sir, do you by any chance have any old unwanted mechs to spare ?
I don't mind requipping some of my city garrison dispossessed warriors with 2nd rate machines (after a touch up by Grumium Creations of course) so i can keep a nice portion of my salary to myself.
Don't worry i will pay ya

OOC: as far as active mechs go, it's currently a 1-1 ratio, with the only exception being that my character has his dad's mech (an Archer) in addition to his own (a Shadow Hawk). Many of the mechs have also been heavily customized, such as that Wasp.
All my character would have available would be salvage taken from the assorted battles; if you wanted it that badly, an arrangement could be made provided that you agreed to make the repairs on your own.

*Accepts the note card and checks the address. He then stores the extra cigar into his coat and looks back to the man*
"I have my own temporary holding facility for my mech, and I do not want to fight for money, so you would not need to pay me or house my mech. I just want to see a little action against Inner Sphere mechwarriors befor I get sent to Glory to do battle with Clanners. Maybe I will pick up a few tactics from you freebirth."

The pilot leans forward. "I would have to talk to the bossman about such an arrangement. As you wouldd be just starting out, you would be the low man on the totem pole as far as fights go; most likely, you will get the wanna-bes and has-beens as your opponents due to the sheer fact that the top talents like myself and the boss will be going against the other top talents. And we specialize in the open weight class, so there is no telling who your opponent will be or what they will be in."

"Well, talk to your bossman about this arrangement, and get back to me on it. I am only on this planet for another month, and I want to battle some opponents worth fighting. It does not matter if I start at the bottom, I will not be there that long."

Just as the pilot finishes his statement, his cell rings. He excuses himself, then takes it out to answer it. The conversation is relatively short, after which the pilot looks back up.
"Some bottom-of-the-barrel just issued us a challenge," the pilot said. 'If you want it, then you can have it. He's got an older model Griffin; the battle will be in Davion stadium, so the terrain is on his side. Just need an answer."
OOC: if you accept the match, then I'll let you handle it yourself; me attempting to do the match by myself for you really wouldn't be fair, especially since I don't know anything about your character. Treat the Griffin pilot as if he was green.

Kalo-
Just as you were posting this, I was posting my response.
Since I have no idea how your character thinks or what his fighting style is, I'll leave handling the match up to you (if I played as your guy and lost, it'd hurt you). That, and it'd take me a while to find everything as a lot of my gaming stuff got moved around recently.
It'll be your character and whatever he has against a green pilot in an older model Griffin inside Davion stadium. As he's green, his entire tactics base will consist of running and gunning (with him occasionally hiding in the crevice and firing indirectly if needs be).

Heard of it, but I have no idea how to actually use it.
Best I could possibly do would be play by e-mail in some fashion.

I managed to find my Master Rules, and I've also printed off a sheet for the Griffin.
If I can just find where my maps got put, I'll be good to go.

OOC: I am a little confused, am I supposed to do the battle and post the results on the board?

Actuall, I forgot about something known as play by e-mail.
In short, we each e-mail each other with what our rolls and actions are for each phase and turn. I've got my Master Rules handy and a mech sheet printed out; we just need to find an agreeable map since I have no idea where my Davion stadium map is right now.
If you do agree, then I'll PM you my e-mail address so that we can begin.
Also, if you allow me to use it, one of my six-siders is a Steel Viper die and three are skull and crossbones. Such logo die were banned from official use at FASA tournaments due to the fact that the face with the logo came up as a result more often than the statistic normal.
