Overview:
The Mothra is a product of the Blood Spirit Enclave. It is used by more experienced
Protomech warriors who have survived their initial battles and learned a modicum of
discipline. Those who excel in this phase of their career are well placed to become future
mech warriors.
Capabilities:
Early on, the Blueprint that would become the Mothra was mostly seen as a "Sure we could do
that, but why?" type of design. The tipping point was realizing just how much ammo capacity
was available. While 20 rounds of fire is excessive by most standards, denser specialty
ammo would happily use up tonnage in the ammo bins. Ideally this would be Tandem Charge
munitions but in a strange twist of fate primitive Dead-Fire missiles have turned into a
favored load, especially on the LRM equipped L variant. Even then the ammo capacity still
lends itself to carrying a few rounds of other munitions for special occasions.
Variants:
The LRM-1 Equipped L variant is the obvious counter part to the SRM variant. Both use a
rather innovated loading system for their launchers utilizing an ammo chain that loops in a
mobius strip. This allows faster ammo selection by allowing both forwards and backwards
ammo selection on the chain.
Notable MechWarriors:
Mothra is of course a well known mythological monster, though its connection to this
protomech in concept is a bit stretched. The initial thought was, "what imaginary mecha are
known for their missiles?" The answer was the Monarch from the Lancer Fictional universe.
And while Monarch would of made a fine name, even now the Blood Spirit enclave is a bit
traditionalist. Protomechs are to be named after mythological creatures. So what is a
Monarch? Its a butterfly. And what is Mothra? Well a Moth actually. But close enough.
