Overview:
In May 3067 the graduating classes of the Luthien Academy Of Military Design got a
challenging task to accomplish.
They had to design a BattleMech with the latest CAD-technology and under following terms:
1. Take a classic BattleMech design used in the 3rd Succession War.
2. Construct an OmniMech chassis upon this basis.
3. Suggest weapon configurations for that chassis; at least four but not more than seven.
3. a) The primary configuration has to be based upon the original weapon layout of the
classic design.
3. b) If possible include following configuration types: city-fighter, LRM-support,
fire-support/sniper.
All OmniMechs were graded by a committee and loaded into a battlefield simulation program.
The CDA-O was presented by Student Herbert Burricki.
Capabilities:
Herbert Burricki decided to go with speed instead of slowing the Cicada down like many
designers tried to.
A 360 rated XL engine delivers the power to propell the CDA-O up to 150 kph. The XL and
advanced construction materials nevertheless freed up enough tonnage to give its armor a
boost of more than 80% and a pod space of 8 tons.
The prime configuration is a recon and electronic support mech. Advanced sensors, ECM and a
C3-slave make it valuable in that kind of missions and three TC-linked lasers provide some
defensive firepower.
The A is a sniper configuration in the tradition of PPC-wielding Cicadas throughout the
centuries.
Configuration B carries two light LRM launchers into battle and has a
defensive weaponry similar to the original Cicada.
The C configuration is a backbiter/striker equipped with tremendous jump capacity but only
carries two medium pulse lasers.
The D is a special operations command mech with a massive C3-master computer. The mech is
only rudimentary armed.
The trials in the academys battlefield simulation program generated very different results.
While the primary and the A configuration fared very well in their type of mission the B and
D utterly failed. The long-range support config simply had too little firepower to have much
impact on the battlefield. The D on the other side was too dependent on its lance-mates for
protection due to its limited weaponry.
The C had weak weapons too but got high scores because it was able to hit even when jumping
around wildly.
Variants:
Student Herbert Burricki was playing with the idea of modifying the A
configuration by dropping the small lasers for a C3-slave.
He thought that a lance of a D and three A would make up a great hunting team.

There was also a suggestion to drop the laser and TC of the D-variant for a single LPPC.
