Overview:
    Even after doctrine is established, the free market does its best to worm its way into the
    defense departments treasury.   The Barbette is a compromise design between three separate
    mechs.  Though the Drudge is the current holder of the defensive line mech, it has not
    always had this position.  Before the Drudge was the Brace.  Meanwhile the Clan Enclaves
    tend to have their own lines of mechs with a large degree of cross pollination between
    everybody else and them.  In this case the Pygme Mamoth, served as inspiration for a mech
    that is attempting to supplant the Drudge's position.

Capabilities:
    The Pygme Mamoth's doctrine was simple.  Assault mech firepower on a Heavy chassis.  It
    achieved its goal but at the cost in maneuverability and frailty.  Despite its weaknesses,
    it has proven quite adept as a fire support platform.  So much so that it seemed a good Idea
    to adapt it to the cheaper tech base that IPD tends to favor.
    
    The Barbette is the result of this attempt.  Capable of a larger and more vaired armament
    then the Brace and considerably cheaper then the Drudge, its a tempting compromise.  Though
    it doesn't quite have the capacity to match the Drudge's weapons load out, it can basically
    match the core function of anything the Drudge can do.  What might be, and probably is the
    deal killer however is the lack of armor.  Like the Pygme Mamoth the Barbette is under
    armored for its mass.  While 10.5 tons of armor is reasonable and will shrug off most
    attacks at least once, it falls well short of the Drudge's 18.5 tons of armor.  It even
    falls short of the Brace's 13.5 tons of armor.  This is a problem if the mech is ever asked
    to support the kind of environment Asymptotes are designed to fight in.

Overview:
    The B1 configuration is, predictably at this point, Thumper artillery.  Not canons, straight
    up full sized artillery.  Which makes sense internally,  Thumpers are probably the second
    most common weapon on the ground for IPD forces.  And while this may be counter to most
    everyone else's doctrine, the Thumper is simply good at dealing with most hostile units it
    may encounter while also being fairly inexpensive.

Capabilities:
    A pair of Thumper Artillery is the primary armament for the B1 configuration.  Supported
    with 4 tons of ammo protected by CASE II it can provide continuous fire missions for over 6
    minutes before running dry.  A pair of ER Medium lasers provides a fig leaf of close range
    defense just in case.  The most interesting feature is the Drone Command Console.  This
    system allows the Barbette to spot for itself without endangering the spotter.  Or with the
    Help of a MultiPlexor, coordinate a drone swarm.
