Overview:
The Valkyrie was originally planned for use by the Star League Defense Force, but production
of the BattleMech did not begin until 2787, after the fall of the Star League and the start
of the First Succession War. This was mainly due to legal entanglement with Harvard Company,
Inc. who claimed the VLK-QA was a "nearly wholesale" copy of the WSP-100A Wasp LAM.[5]
Because of this odd twist of fate, and because the only factory to produce the Valkyrie was
located on New Avalon, the only nation to possess a large number of Valkyries was the
Federated Suns. During the Succession Wars the Valkyrie became the standard light 'Mech of
the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns, often replacing the lighter Wasp and Stinger 'Mechs
in many units and given to experienced MechWarriors to pilot. While not as fast as either
design, the Valkyrie has an almost comparable jumping distance, heavier armor, and
longer-range weaponry. Capable of maintaining a high rate-of-fire while jumping as often as
it liked, the Valkyrie gained a reputation for tenacity, and once on the attack "it stays
with you until either you drop or it does."[2][6]
Corean Enterprises was able to maintain a steady production rate of 130 Valkyries per year
during the Succession Wars, reaching almost 200 per year during the desperation of the First
Succession War. With its location in the heart of the Davion realm, that rate was rarely
under threat, although the possibility of the automated factories breaking down for good
remained a growing concern during the technological decline of the Third Succession War.
Every regiment, and nearly every battalion, had at least one Valkyrie 'Mech under its
command, with some recon companies equipped with entire lances of Valkyries. The Davions
were also willing to sell the 'Mech to mercenary outfits contracted to serve them, while
relatively few found their way into the hands of the other realms through battlefield
salvage.[2][3]Valkyrie production made a major expansion around this time, as Katrina
Steiner helped Defiance Industries strike a licensing deal with Corean, a deal which would
persist at least until the end of the Jihad.[7] One major setback in Valkyrie production did
occur during the Fourth Succession War, when the Draconis Combine captured Marduk, site of
Norse BattleMech Works and producers of the 'Mech's Norse Industries 3S jump jets.
Production fell behind for the next few years as Corean tried several other jump jet models
without success, until finally settling on HildCo Interplanetary's HildCo Model 12 line of
jump jets.[6][8]
Following the formation of the Federated Commonwealth, its nascent military force was faced
with the problem of combining two entirely separate militaries into one unified whole. Part
of the solution was commonality of equipment, and the Valkyrie was chosen to be a standard
light 'Mech of the AFFC. Following the discovery of the Helm Memory Core, the New Avalon
Institute of Science was able to restore the Valkyrie industrial complex to its full Star
League era production rate, while Corean was able to utilize lostech components to construct
the new VLK-QD model starting in 3049.[3][8]
The FedCom Civil War took a particularly heavy toll on light 'Mechs, and the Commonwealth
was in desperate need of replacements; unfortunately Valkyrie production had halted when the
St. Ives Compact was conquered by the Capellan Confederation, and HildCo was no longer
willing to supply Corean with jump jets. At the time the company was in negotiations with
Vicore Industries about reviving the Valkyrie design with two new variants, the VLK-QD1 and
VLK-QD3, and Vicore just happened to have the solution to their problems. The company had
secretly negotiated to build HildCo jump jets under the Vicore name, and was willing to sell
these components to Corean in exchange for the right to build both variants. Corean agreed,
and Valkyrie production restarted on New Avalon and Demeter, with new units reaching Davion
forces by July 3067.[9]
Capabilities:
The Valkyrie has as its primary armament a Devastator Series-07 LRM-10 launcher with 12
reloads mounted in the left torso. While an unusual weapon on a light 'Mech, and carrying
only enough missiles for two minutes of continuous fire, it gives the Valkyrie a long reach
and respectable damage, especially against other light 'Mech hunters. As a backup weapon the
Valkyrie carries a Sutel IX medium laser in its right arm. This mix of long and short-range
weapons allows the Valkyrie to soften up other 'Mechs from long range then move in for a
kill.[2][3][6]
11 single heat sinks allow the Valkyrie to fire its weapons and use its five jump jets, two
each in the legs and the fifth in the rear torso, to jump up to 150 meters at a time without
worrying about heat buildup. It also carries six tons of armor to absorb a decent amount of
punishment. While only boasting a cruising speed of 54 km/h, it is capable of outmaneuvering
and, when working as a team, taking down heavier opponents.[2][3][6]

Variants:
VLK-QD:
The QD Valkyrie is a major overhaul of the design debuting in 3049. The chassis has been
reengineered to use Corean Model 101AA endo steel construction and the armor has been
upgraded to ferro-fibrous with CASE. This allowed the variant to update the laser to a Sutel
Precision Line medium pulse laser and add an Artemis IV fire control system to the LRM-10.
BV (1.0) = 690; BV (2.0) = 807[10]
VLK-QD1:
The QD1 is another major overhaul of the Valkyrie, developed in partnership with Vicore
Industries and debuting in 3067. Powered by an Omni 150 XL engine and built using a Corean
Model 101AA endo steel chassis, the QD1 is protected by six tons of StarGuard III armor and
carries ten double heat sinks. It is propelled through the air by five Vicore Thrust-Masters
Model L jump jets and carries a Defiance Model XII ER medium laser in the right arm and a
Valiant Arbalest LRM-15 launcher with two tons of reloads in the left torso. The LRM
launcher is mated to an Artemis IV fire control system while a targeting computer is linked
to the laser. The variant still carries the Lynx-shur communications suite but replaces the
older targeting-tracking system with a Sync Tracker (40-TC). Finally, a Full-Head Ejection
System protects the pilot.[1]
BV (1.0) = 835; BV (2.0) = 878[11] or 835[1]
VLK-QD2:
In the Blakist sieges of New Avalon during the Jihad, following the NAIS refit of the
Longbow, Corean Enterprises retooled their QD1 production lines in 3072 to produce this
version, stripping out the LRM-15, its attendant Artemis IV and missiles to fit a pair of
Mydron Snipehunter LAC/2s. Two ammo bins allow Davion MechWarriors to utilize any kind of
ammo on hand, while the Defiance XII ER medium laser and targeting computer of the QD1 were
retained, making this model a highly-accurate 'Mech able to provide direct fire-support or
quickly shred enemy light 'Mechs.[12]
BV (2.0) = 638[13]
VLK-QD3:
The QD3 is an upgrade of the QD variant introduced in 3069 as part of the Vicore deal. While
it retains most aspects of the QD1, the QD3 is instead powered by a GM 210 engine for a top
speed of 119 km/h, sports ferro-fibrous armor, and carries two ER medium lasers and a Holly
LRM-5 launcher.[1]
BV (1.0) = 853; BV (2.0) = 882[14]
VLK-QD4:
This 3085 variant is armed with an MML-7 and ER medium laser, carries light ferro-fibrous
armor, and uses double heat sinks. Improved jump jets maximize battlefield mobility, while a
Full Head Ejection System protects Davion MechWarriors who pilot this variant.[15]
BV (2.0) = 657[16]
VLK-QD5:
This failed 3101 variant, based on the QD4, replaced the improved jump jets with standard
jump jets and added an ATM-3 launcher. Limited mobility and survivability, combined with an
exclusive ATM ammunition logistics contract with Clan Diamond Shark that left customers
without ammunition, led to the abandonment of the project. BV (2.0) = 690[17]
VLK-QD6:
This variant keeps the 85 km/h top speed of the traditional Valkyrie, using an XL engine and
XL gyro to free weight. The right arm mounts an ER medium laser, and a single ELRM-10 with
two tons of ammunition provides long range firepower. The 'Mech is protected by
ferro-fibrous armor and the ammunition is protected by CASE. BV (2.0) = 827[18]
VLK-QD8:
This version of the Valkyrie was introduced during the Dark Age. It also has the Full Head
Ejection System, but like the QS5 it uses an endo steel chassis and small cockpit. Carrying
a light PPC and a single ELRM-10 missile launcher creates a 'Mech that excels at extremely
long range combat.
BV (2.0) = 787[19]
VLK-QDD:
The QDD is a Dark Age extension of the QD model. It uses a light engine to reach a top speed
of 96 km/h and, like the QD, it uses ferro-fibrous armor, but uses an XL gyro instead of
endo steel to save weight. In place of the medium pulse laser, it uses an ER medium laser,
but the LRM-10 keeps the Artemis IV FCS.
BV (2.0) = 834[20]
VLK-QF:
The QF model of the Valkyrie was the only common variant of the 'Mech during the Succession
Wars. First fielded in 2967, it trades in the medium laser for a flamer, which allows the
'Mech to work in an incendiary role and also acts as an excellent deterrent to infantry
attacks.
BV (1.0) = 563; BV (2.0) =653[21]
VLK-QS5:
The QS5 variant of the Valkyrie, introduced in 3070, uses a small cockpit and endo steel
chassis to save weight. These weight savings allow for a highly flexible MML-9 launcher
linked to an Artemis IV fire control system for increased missile accuracy. For close
combat, the QS5 has a medium laser. Like the rest of QD series, it uses a Full Head Ejection
System.
BV (2.0) = 774[22]
VLK-QT2:
This variant was developed in 3081 by the Taurian Concordat during the Jihad. It carries a
Blankenburg light PPC and a Guided Technologies Second Generation Streak SRM-6. An XL engine
increases the top speed to 111 km/h, while 10 double heat sinks keep the 'Mech cool.
BV (2.0) = 863[15]
VLK-QW5:
Built by the Word of Blake starting in 3072, this Valkyrie variant carries an Artemis
IV-enhanced MML-7 and medium laser. The 'Mech has a light fusion engine, endo steel
structure, and is protected by light ferro-fibrous armor. The pilot benefits from a Full
Head Ejection System and, for coordinating with friendly units, it also carries an improved
C3 computer.
BV (2.0) = 689[23]
Valkyrie C:
Developed by Clan Wolf after they took Stewart in 3138, this mixed tech variant is used by
solahma troops. It uses an Inner Sphere XL engine, XL gyro, and improved jump jets which
allows the Valkyrie C to move quickly and cover 240 meters at a time. Armament is a Clan
built medium pulse laser and a Clan LRM-10 with two tons of ammunition. Clan CASE II
protects the ammunition, and Clan ferro-fibrous armor protects the rest of the 'Mech.
BV (2.0) = 936[24]
Custom Variants:
VLK-QD Valkyrie Karano:
The personal 'Mech of Seth Karano, his close-combat melee fighting style resulted in him
modifying his factory-fresh VLK-QD to aid in this, swapping the Medium Pulse Laser for a
standard model and exchanging the LRM launcher for a pair of SRM-6 racks fed from a two-ton
ammo bay.[25][26]
BV (2.0) = 826 [24]

Notable Valkyrie Pilots:
Rachel Akron:
Rachel "The Avenger" Akron was a notable officer in the Seventh Crucis Lancers during the
First Succession War.[1]
Alias(es): The Avenger
Affiliation: Federated Suns
Rank: Leftenant[1]
Profession: MechWarrior[1]
History:
Leftenant Akron was one of the members of the Seventh Crucis Lancers participating in
resistance operations on Kentares IV following its conquest by the Draconis Combine. Akron's
BattleMech was destroyed during the Combine's initial conquest of the planet, leaving her
assigned to infantry duties when the Seventh Lancers elected to remain on-world as a
resistance movement. When a shipment of Valkyrie BattleMechs was smuggled onto Kentares in
2792, Akron returned to her MechWarrior duties, spending the next four years as 'Mech
support for her former infantry platoon's insurgent activities. Akron's preferred tactic was
to use herself as bait, luring the heaviest defenders of various supply depots and caravans
into traps while her commandos used the opportunity to steal the under-defended
resources.[1]
When Coordinator Minoru Kurita was killed on Kentares, Akron was one of the members of the
Seventh Lancers who obeyed First Prince John Davion's recall order in the hopes that leaving
the planet would prevent Combine retaliation against Kentares' populace. Akron's infantry
comrades remained behind in order to observe the situation and, when Akron returned in the
wake of the Kentares Massacre, she learned her friends had been killed by a First Sword of
Light lance commanded by Chu-i Sohoshi Oshita.[1]
Enraged, Akron requested a leave of absence from the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns in
order to hunt down Oshita and his lancemates. By 2801, Akron and an accompanying mercenary
unit tracked Oshita's force to the world of Tallmadge, where they eliminated Combine
MechWarriors and technicians alike. Akron ensured the death of the technicians herself,
assaulting the lance's field hangars and stomping many of them under her 'Mech's feet.[1]
BattleMechs:
Leftenant Rachel Akron piloted an Enforcer BattleMech until it was destroyed during the
Draconis Combine's conquest of Kentares IV. After a brief period as an infantryman, Akron
took command of a Valkryie BattleMech, which she would use to great effect in insurgent and
anti-infantry roles.[1]

Maren Averitt:
Maren Averitt was a notable officer in the First Protectorate Guardians during the Dark Age
Era.[1]
Affiliation: Draconis Combine (formerly)
Clan Protectorate
Rank: Star Captain[1]
Profession: MechWarrior[1]
History:
Star Captain Averitt grew up near a significant Clan Nova Cat enclave on Cyrenaica and was
fascinated by the strange culture they possessed. After graduating from the Sun Zhang
MechWarrior Academy, Averitt hoped to serve alongside one of the Nova Cat units defending
the Draconis Combine's borders but was instead given an entirely different opportunity
during the Draconis Combine Civil War. Averitt was disgusted by the victorious Combine's
treatment of Nova Cat civilians on Sadalbari and convinced her entire lance to defect in
order to escort civilians through both Combine and Republic of the Sphere territory. After
making the dangerous journey to the Clan Protectorate, Averitt joined the First Protectorate
Guardians and became the unit's only officer to come from a non-Clan background.[1]
BattleMech:
Star Captain Maren Averitt piloted a Valkyrie BattleMech while serving with the First
Protectorate Guardians.[1]

Charles Domingo:
Charles Joseph Pangle Domingo was a notable officer in the Second Robinson Strikers and,
later, an instructor at the Robinson Battle Academy.[1]
Died: 3144[1]
Affiliation: Federated Suns
Rank: Captain[1]
Profession: MechWarrior[1]
History
Captain Domingo was a graduate of the Robinson Battle Academy and supported Jerome Sandoval
as a member of the Second Robinson Strikers during the 3095 Sandoval Civil War. Domingo
retired from active duty military service in the 3120s but was invited to teach
combined-arms warfare at the Robinson Battle Academy, where he extorted his cadets to "spend
each day working hard to try and malf up less than the day before." To his pleasure, many of
Domingo's graduated students fought with distinction against the forces of the Draconis
Combine and Clan Snow Raven. Domingo went into battle for the last time in 3144 during the
Battle of Robinson, assembling the students and instructors of the Battle Academy into an ad
hoc defensive force. Domingo's soldiers fought well and managed to hold the Academy's
grounds for almost a week against an overwhelming amount of Draconis Combine Mustered
Soldiery forces.[1]

Rank: Captain[1]
Profession: MechWarrior[1]
History:
Captain Johnson attended Filtvelt Military Academy on a scholarship provided by the
Fincastle Armed Forces of the Federated Suns Veterans Society and served in the Remagen CrMM
for several years after graduating. During an anti-pirate mission on Baranda in September
3075, Johnson came to the rescue of Major General Raymond-Roger Marsin after the officer was
cut off from the rest of his command lance. The two men formed a friendship after the
incident and many within the Remagen militia began to view Johnson's BattleMech as a good
luck charm. Following the conclusion of the Jihad, Johnson was assigned to now-Duke Marsin's
security staff.[1]

History:
Knight-Errant MacEoghan possessed academic skills that enabled him to enroll in the Taurian
Concordat's École Militaire as a MechWarrior and subsequently served as a cornet in the
First Taurian Lancers. After realizing that military service was hindering his passions for
the liberal arts, MacEoghan defected for the Brotherhood of Randis and was able to happily
pursue both his military and artistic passions for the next few decades. When word of
atrocities being committed on Novo Franklin arrived aboard a supply DropShip in 3144,
MacEoghan made investigating and defeating the threat his personal mission. Ultimately,
MacEoghan's traveling companion returned to Randis alone and Dispossessed, rambling about a
"Dark One" before being deemed mad. As of 3150, both MacEoghan and his BattleMech remained
missing.[1]
BattleMech:
Knight-Errant Thaddeus MacEoghan defected from the Taurian Concordat with a captured
Federated Suns Valkyrie. It disappeared with him during the Novo Franklin mission.[1]

MechWarrior Turcot was newly-assigned to the Twenty-second Avalon Hussars during the Palmyra
Disaster and survived the battle when her transport JumpShip performed an emergency jump out
of the system during the initial stages of fighting. Turcot and her brand-new BattleMech
went on to serve in the unsuccessful defense of Monroe before receiving a promotion to
leftenant. She also became fanatically loyal to Erik Sandoval-Groell, who she saw as her
best chance for revenge against the Draconis Combine.[1]
BattleMech:
Leftenant Jancee Turcot piloted a -QD6 model Valkyrie BattleMech during the Palmyra Disaster
and repeatedly refused upgrading to a different machine after the Twenty-second Avalon
Hussars' destruction.[1]

Calla Velanmorg:
Calla Velanmorg was a notable MechWarrior in the Tenth Lyran Guards during the Clan Invasion
Era.[1]
Affiliation: Federated Commonwealth
Rank: Sergeant[1]
Profession: MechWarrior[1]
History:
Sergeant Velanmorg possessed an all-encompassing drive to ascend through the ranks and,
while her superiors considered her to be unemotional, her few friends knew her to be both
fiercely loyal and reliable. Velanmorg was assigned to the Tenth Lyran Guards after the unit
was battered on Alyina and used her new posting as an opportunity to show off her tactical
abilities. Her near-perfect memory and her habit of steadfastly poring over inteliigence
reports prior to missions proved invaluable during the Tenth Guards' May 3051 raid on
Teniente to rescue Hohiro Kurita. After the mission, Velanmorg was given a commendation from
future Archon-Prince Victor Steiner-Davion himself.[1]
