Overview:
Created by Sarna Heavy Arms as a generalist design utilizing Helm Memory Core technology
recovered just a half decade prior, the Varlet was intended to be a core 'Mech of a
modernized Capellan Confederdation military. While it would fall short of those expectations
due to its price tag, it still found use by the armed forces as a versatile skirmisher for
their veteran MechWarriors.
Capabilities:
The Varlet is a nimble 35-ton Light 'Mech, being designed from the ground up to have a
serviceable mix of armor, speed, and weaponry. It is built on an Endo-Steel chassis to
support those three pillars, while it is powered by a 210-rated XL fusion engine. The latter
would end up dooming Sarna Heavy Arms' efforts to have it become ubiquitous due to its cost,
but it would still allow it to be highly mobile both on the ground and with 6 attached Jump
Jets. 4.5 tons of standard armor is deemed sufficient with its speed profile.
The VLT-3T as its primary weapon mounts in its right torso an Autocannon/5 with a single ton
of ammunition in the left. For closer ranges, two Medium Pulse Lasers and two Small Lasers
in the arms can be used, while a Small Pulse Laser was also installed in the head primarily
to deal with infantry. This loadout allows it to deliver increasing amounts of firepower as
range closes, and it is mostly supply line independent. 10 double heat sinks are more than
enough to cool it as well.
The design was also made to be narrow and able to fit into tight spaces, but this required
shaving off part of the Medium Pulse Lasers' cooling jackets as well as compacting the
cockpit.
