Overview:
The appearance of the Chariot heavy tank in the Marian Hegemony Armed Forces was a surprise
to almost all. Not because it really broke any new ground, but because it replicated the old
Merkava heavy tank of the Terran Hegemony of centuries past to such a great degree. It led
many to believe that the Marian Hegemony had acquired a copy of the New Dallas Memory Core.
The truth is, they actually had done just that.
Hegemony scientists and engineers have since been shifting through the data and using it to
develop new equipment, technologies and techniques; one of which has resulted in the
Chariot, a more deadly version of the old Merkava.
Capabilities:
Using the later Merkava Mk VIII model as a basis, the Hegemony engineers replaced the fusion
core with a less massive, but just as powerful fuel cell engine, and the armor with heavy
ferro-fibrous plate which actually added a bit of protection to the vehicle while also
decreasing the mass devoted to the armor. These mass savings were then devoted to the weapon
systems of the vehicle.
The Chariot retains the two machine guns if its progenitor, but improves the other three
weapon systems. Both missile launchers have Artemis IV fire control systems added, making
each more effective. The biggest improvement, however, is in the main gun, which has been
changed from the original standard type 5 autocannon to a more advanced and hard-hitting
dual purpose type 10 autocannon. Capable of firing both standard autocannon rounds and
cluster rounds, this autocannon can make swift work of many different types of foes.
Deployment:
The Chariot has begun deployment to many of the Marian Hgemony’s frontline units and it is
expected to only expand its service in the future.
Variants:
There are rumors that Hegemony engineers are working on an even more advanced design,
perhaps powered by an extralight fusion core. Only time will tell if these rumors are true
or not.
