Overview:
Made specifically for the Solaris VII arenas, the CHM-P1N Champion is designed to be a
powerful melee fighter first and foremost - though some ranged weapons are included to
ensure it's not a boring one-trick pony. It features advanced movement tech to ensure it can
get into chopping range, or to get out of a bad situation.
Capabilities:
The CHM-P1N is built on a Solaris Hollow/Assault Composite chassis, saving weight but making
it brittle if the 14.5 tons of Durallex Special Light Ferro-Fibrous armor are breached. This
had led to tongue-in-cheek comparisons to a hard dark chocolate bar with a nougat filling -
it's tough and bitter on the outside, but soft once you get through that rigid exterior. As
for power, it has a supercharger-equipped Magna 400 XL engine, which combined with MASC lets
it reach speeds typically impossible for a 'Mech of its size. This is crticial for its
melee-heavy fighting style, as closing the distance is required for the 'Mech to do its
maximum amount of damage. Electronics-wise, the Champion uses a Cyclops 14 comms system and
a Solaris SureShot 2 targeting and tracking computer; the lattter tends not to perform well
at long ranges due to the close-in configuration settings used. Cooling the 'Mech is
accomplished by 14 double heat sinks. Finally, due to the weight-shifting fighting style it
employs, an overtuned Heavy-Duty Gyro is installed that makes it unlikely for it to fall
over (or someone else to make it do so).
As for its proper armament, the primary weapons of the Champion P1 are a Solaris Heavy
Lumberjack Hatchet in the left arm and a PPC Capacitor-enhanced Fusigon Strongtooth Heavy
PPC mounted in the right torso; an secondarys ranged weapon are also included in the form of
a left torso-mounted SRM/2 with an Artemis IV FCS and one ton of missiles and two
arm-mounted Medium Pulse Lasers. Additional defense is included with a Solaris Bulwark Large
Shield in the right arm. The Hatchet and Large Shield in particular are able to be dropped
by the 'Mech if need be, and if both need to be dropped it still has good melee capability
in the form of two heavyweight fists.
The overall 'Mech is an imposing opponent, but is clearly oversized and hard to maintain. As
such, any military versions have to make drastic revisions to turn it from a gladitorial
main event into something actually suitable for frontline use.
