The scary part here folks is I can picture Chandra saying this like he was standing in front of me.
And an observation here...not only is his terrain good looking it's also VERY easy to play on. To me that's far more important than looks.

What is the average price and time spent on making terrain?

It's taken me over 15 years to create and amass my terrain. That's because life gets in the way. I doubt anyone here is making it professionally under any sort of buisness model time table. Usually I spread out a map project over several days or even weeks using the overnight for glue or paint drying time. My best guess is that one map takes about 5-6 hours (not including drying times, hey, we're sleeping then anyway right?)
Are you planning on making your own? Trying to figure out some sort of pricing structure to sell them? If your just starting out, start small, and remember it gets easier and faster with repetition.(or with cheap foreign labor)

Actually I am trying to get enough to make the hex maps look better and have some way of adding in special touches...plus ideas are always good to have.

Karagin,
Here's a couple quick-n-easys...
1) Go to your local hobby shop and buy some packs of HO scale or N scale model railroad trees. Horhiro added some HO-scale tree to BT maps at the last totalcon (they were HO-scale, weren't they, Horhiro?), and they looked way-cool.
2) Get some BT mech minis that you don't care about too much. Cut them in half at the waist, and glue the torso/arms/head half to a hex base. Paint the hex base like water, and substitute these minis for any mechs that enters Level-1 water.

Thanks for the ideas! I like them!
Any ideas on how to make craters?

How deep of a crater are you looking for?
HO scale works the best....

Wait for Horhiro to answer that question.
A bunch of us played at his house yesterday (pics to be up soon!!!) and he has some great terrain that has a ton of different elevations.

I was thinking about up to a mechs toros or where the legs meet the toros and big enough to allow vehicles to be hull down...
