Yes.

He was more recognizable for cursing very loudly at the games he was running and his incredible knack of getting every rules question wrong. His scenarios were great ideas but his knowledge of the rules (or lack thereof) made them totally impossible to play.

The worst part was you could show him he was incorrect and then he would say it was a "varient rule"--then when asked what the other "varient rules" he was using he'd tell you that he'd say what they were when they came up.

And to think he blames me for people not playing in his games...

yeah I remember him now. I never played in his games but I played in a few with him. Definately a Putz. Now I now why I don't see him there any more!

I think 3025 is the best era. It is the heart of the game. The advances in technology have taken away some of the element of "quiet desperation" that drove the game early on. In 3025 you might give up the objective to save your combat units knowing that it would be preserved for you to take another crack at it later. All that changed with the Clans.

That and all the other reasons the right-thinking 3025 folks have given.

Waaaaaiiiittt a second, now I know who Tim Gendron is. I finally figured it out from your post in another forum. I've had him confused with another gamer from the con.

I have to say I DID enjoy playing BTech with him. I never had the experiences that you guys seem to have had, during the few years I missed the con.

I remember he (and his dad) played in a few of my events and I remember him as being an excellent player. A little boisterous perhaps, but a most enjoyable player.

My appologies for the Putz comment, it was meant for an entirely different person.

Playing he was fine--it's his GMing that was at issue.

Being loud at a con is no big deal--in fact us being loud at TotalCon led Chris Jachimowicz to create some very interesting Flintloque scenarios

Right. That's the part I never saw. Too bad he doesn't come just to play.

I had a wonderful 3058 campaign I was running with just myself and a few others around the Liao-Marik invasion and Operation Guerrero. Most mechs were from the TR 3050 with a few from 3055 and 1 or 2 from 3058. But if I had a good sourcebook, I'd definitely want to try a Star-League Era campaign.

3025 took more skill to play, 3062 evens out the IS and Clan tech i think.

It disturbs me to see a BTech rep liking the 3060 era... Not sure why.. but ...

I like in this order:

3025 Interesting setting, and the mechs
reward skill over munchiness

3050 The Clan invasion is a great time
frame.. I love Clan vs old Inner
Sphere battles, as skill can still
win there.

Everything else... Don't like most of the new weapons and armor and hate the tech 3 rules as they only add to the munchiness of the mechs. TSM, stealth armor, heavy Gauss rifles ( Heck Gauss rifles themselves) take away from the skill required to be a good pilot, and add to the luck factor.

I have to admit, i like 3025. I think its an original idea and setting, and one that the BattleTech creators should have worked very hard to adhere too. Its when they radically changed the philosophy and time line, without an equal change in political and thought processes among the people of the Sphere that I have a problem. They want the best of both world in 3062 (original setting, but lots of tech and toys). And its not something that can be done.

3025 was a game for the Gentleperson General, and even 3050 was a game for them as well. It is when you get into 3060 and onwards that its all out the window in favor of techy toys and bordom.

I like the 3025 to 3050 gap. I wish More such gaps could be allowed. It is long enough to run a Mechwarriors career in RPG, while also giving new possibilities with the new generation. The 3000-3025 gap was similar. I wish there had been a 3050-3075 gap.

The way I see it the 3000-3025 gap was recognising a problem (a near total loss of tech) and doing something about it.
The 3025-3050 gap was a golden age for a House that found a solution to the big problem.
3050-3075 would be the end of the golden age and a long battle against another problem.
If the houses were rotated on the "generational" basis, everyone would have an era where their house was ascendant. Heck Houses could even be transformed in some eras, The Davion civil war fought by Prince Alexander could be played and be with in the rules. Davion went from a 5 prince and march system, to a 1 prince and 3 march system during that time.

Looking at how the various groups of fans would give you Ideas for writing the next step. It would be a cooperative effort. the 25 year gaps would be filled with a TRO every year and a half about the various weapon classes of the era. The House books would have a Base, and then an update every cycle (I.E. House Marik, 3000, 3025, and 3050). TRO's would be similar.

Players that liked specific eras could buy that eras sourcebook/tro combo and be happy. There would be a steady revenue stream as well. you could reprint every so often for each era without the costs of a rewrite.

You could also have a GM book. This would set up several rules about tech development. Production rates, and other aspects governing the scenarios so that things would not advance too quickly. Your play testing would be the GameCons which show how the various factions seem to be moving along.

3025 for me. Gamewise, it takes the most skill to be able to do all those combat things AND manage heat.

Setting wise it was the best. The houses were all pretty equal, there was always the motivation of fighting just for parts. and it felt like a universe of the virtually edge of total colapse.

By 3060 we have new mechs and equipment every day.

Definitly 3025 !

For me the introduction of ClanTech, and their 2/3 pilots, had been the begin of the end of Classic BT
