I do not own, nor have I ever needed, a side arm. In personal combat, I use a Northland.

All you pups and your relices. I use whatever my employer gives me, but i usually prefear these weapons when on a mission outside my mech: 11.4mm Pistol, 11.4mm SMG with a flashlight if possible, Vibroknife, and my Kurita issued Katana. If my mission requires me to imploy a longer ranged weapon, I will use a pretty standard 7.62mm Assult Rifle. I, however, like the SMG better do to its size and ease of use. So compared to you welps, I am pretty boring.

I only use my old weapons as show pieces and at the firing range. For actual combat I also carry an SMG and a needler pistol. This is in addition to whatever the mission calls for. My SMG is often fitted with a silencer, as is my special issue 14.8mm sniper rifle. I'll tell ya now, don't ever shoot one of those without it being properly shouldered, it has more of a kick than a 4 gauge elephant gun.

That may be true for you mechjocks. Us infantry need to carry as much firepower as we can...a pistol won't do it against an enemy in Ballistic Plate Armor, especially the suit variety. A Laser Rifle or SMG will.
Ya see, I keep my four sidearms basically so Im never out of guns. The SMG is nice, it can't be detached from the armor plate on my arm. The needle pistol is usually optional, the twin lasers and the auto plus the SMG usually do the job.
The Blazer I use to blow things apart. Its a special, SLDF-prototype. Both tubes are packed into one barrel, and it has an automatic fire of sorts. Not like a MG, but enough to make BA worry, mind you. Its quite a power hog, and Im forced to use these special volitile power packs...
And for you mechjocks, I like to carry a microgrenade launcher, sometimes armed with my nasty suprise- Inferno Grenades. Or simply a Double-Job SRM Launcher loaded with those nasty infernos...
Of corse, all these guns mean that Im loaded down with about 8 of the special power packs, plus a wealth of other powerpacks, microgrenades, and normal grenades...

Well I prefer tried and proven designs, when out in the field I have an old Star league Mauser 960 Assault system. Rather heavy it is true but a nice compact handfull of deadly fire power. I also have an assortment of blades and have been known to grab a hammer if pressed.

Face me in the field (outside of my 'mech, that is), and you'll have to contend with my M1911 and my shotgun.

What's that about boys and toys?
I just got a needler pistol. It gets kinda cramped in my panther's cockpit and i'm not sure if i want weapons flying all around if the mech gets knocked down and the locker flies open.

You realize of course, that all our guns mean nothing if Raven over there buys out our units.
Though, my friend, if you ever want to try to prove the Pen is mightier than the sword, I have my repier in the trunk.
Oh, and I carry a .45 in a shoulder holster. Never needed much else. I don't make a habit of getting into bar fights. When I need something extra I've got a 30.06 and cut-down MP-10 in the trunk too. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

Both sayings are quite well known, but ...
Quill may be mightier than sword, but the sword must be small and dull, while the quill must be sharp and long.
Sword may be mightier than pen, but printing press is heavier than many siege engines.
(I just hope that I didn't twist them too much, those who read them in proper place know...)

Volatile power packs can be advantageous in certain situations, when you are out of hand grenades, you can throw the packs

They don't really have an effective splash radius, just enough to be a hazard when they're strapped on your leg. That and the fact that they cost roughly 150 C-Bills a unit...
