It's probably also the GM's way of trying to keep the tone at lease somewhat serious. "Calvinball with axes" is an inherently silly concept, and will be nigh-impossible to incorporate into a gameworld that even has a pretense of seriousness.

I imagine they've been making these up for some time.
Either as a running inside gag, or to post on the web.
To me, this is more like an evil-overlord list (made up expressly for the humor) than a skippy's list (funny because it actually happened).

I can see that, but I will also say that a good GM will come up with a quick story for it.
Besides "Calvinball" was essentialy a game with no rules. So essentially "781. My tribe's trial by combat ritual is not best described as "Calvinball with axes" " would really be a all out Axe battle. It just have a description that is basically silly.

Actually, Calvinball was a game with utterly ridiculous rules made up on the spot. Having to shout "olly wolly polly wolly ump bump fizz!" after stealing a flag being an example. Or the Boomerang Zone.

Fine then. (storms off and peruzes his extensive calvin and hobbes collection.)
Actually the only perment rule of calvinball is that you cant play it the same way twice. But there is a rule saying that anything made up goes.
(realizes that he is now stuck in the argument clinic with Warhammer)

Now this is a case of why? What is wrong with either of thoes. Funny though they may be, a good gm should be able to work around thoes, with out having to make a rule not to do it again.

Sounds like a fun group. I had one group convince the thief (who had stolen items from all of them) to go purcgase an egg from a dragon. (alleging high charisma and blather ability).
It failed, vengeance gained.
This guy sounds like a good guy to have in the group, I just wonder how some of these concepts came up in the course of play.

Yup, in one of our games we had a player playing a gnome, we had him convinced that the dragon flying around couldnt find him if he shoved mud up his nose.
He roll played it beautifully, every single time.

Woops. Role, its time like this that make you really wonder about the english language.
I have a great e-mail that has a word spelled the same being used up to 3 different ways each with its own meaning and sound.
