================================================================================================
Overview:
In May 3067 the graduating classes of the Luthien Academy Of Military Design got a
challenging task to accomplish.
They had to design a BattleMech with the latest CAD-technology and under following terms:
1. Take a classic BattleMech design used in the 3rd Succession War.
2. Construct an OmniMech chassis upon this basis.
3. Suggest weapon configurations for that chassis; at least four but not more than seven.
3. a) The primary configuration has to be based upon the original weapon layout of the
classic design.
3. b) If possible include following configuration types: city-fighter, LRM-support,
fire-support/sniper.
All OmniMechs were graded by a committee and loaded into a battlefield simulation program.
The CN-O was presented by Student Jeffrey Namura.
Capabilities:
Student Namura designed the new Centurion with a light engine to increase its speed as he
thought its original speed as to slow for the modern batllefield. A fixed ER medium laser
sits in the center torso location comming in handy for most combat situations. An EndoSteel
skeleton makes frees up some tonnage for an acceptable 20,5 tons of pod-space. On most of
his configurations the right arm carries the main weapon, secondary weaponry sits in the
left torso and ammunition occupies the right torso, keeping the original lines of the old
Centurion.
The primary configuration carries virtually the same weaponry like the CN9-D from 18 years
ago: An LB10-X and an Artemis-enhanced LRM.
The A-configuration was designed with LRM-support in mind with two artemis-enhanced LRM-15.
The fixed medium laser is its only defense weapon.
A massive gauss rifle is the main gun of the B. With such a heavy main weapon secondary
weaponry consists of an additional trio of ER medium lasers.
To serve the city-fighzer niche the C features a large pulse laser and a Streak-SRM-6. A
small pulse laser ensures anti infantry capability and all lasers are tied into a targeting
computer to minimize collateral damage to vital city-infrastructure. To navigate narrow
streets a full set of jump jets are added as is a C3-slave.
The D is likely an afterthought to the primary configuration: carrying a heavy PPC and an
artemis-equipped LRM-15 it has less ammo-dependence and heavier firepower.
Finally the E served as a sniper with its light gauss rifle and ER large laser. Able to use
a C3-network.
The trials the academys battlefield simulation program revealed good performance.
The primary was criticized for lacking imaginativeness and especially firepower though.
