Overview:
The Clan Mongoose Enclave, primarily known for their attempt to create True Born Lawyers,
rarely contribute to meaningful battle technology. So when they produced an in house mech,
and a much maligned Quadvee at that, very careful attention deserves to be focused on what
they are up to.
Capabilities:
The Bumper Car has one goal in life, to run into another mech's legs at top speed. Its mass
and speed are the weapon. Reinforced structure and a Ram Plate deal with the shock of such
brutal tactics, while an oversized engine and a super charger provide the power to get this
monstrosity moving. TSM in the wheel's crankshaft provide extra responsiveness once the
Mech's internal structure heats up in combat. A single Heavy Small laser is the mechs only
other weapon, possibly simply there to add injury to insult.
And of course there is the prime refinement, the use of wheeled quadvee systems on this four
legged mech. Not only does the efficiency of the wheels provide greater speed in clear
terrain, but the fact that the mech has a vehicle configuration has lead the Mongoose
authorities to argue that they should be allowed to bring 2 such units per point in a trial.
They of course cite the Hell's Horses for doing it first and as such its a legal option.
Notable MechWarriors:
So.... Rules lawyer time.
First, Quadvee rules state that 'except for the following Quadvee's are quads for the
purposes of construction.' As such the Ram Plate should be valid equipment. Since it is
not right this instant on MOrdel, It is represented by the ERLL and twin LRM-10(OS)
Second, Ground vehicles can charge, thus the Ram Plate still activates it's special affects.
Third, in vehicle mode, the Cruise MP is derived from the walking MP (+1 because Wheels) As
such TSM would increase the wheeled movement when active. You could argue, but I'll argue
right back that most rotatory power sources are Myomer based rather then electromagnetically
based in the future. You have bundles of myomer's pulling on a crankshaft rather then
piston's pushing it.
Third and a half, Superchargers just do supercharger things.
Fourth, I'm fairly sure the Hell Horses Do only count a quadvee as half a point the cheaty
bastards. Thats worse then 5 protomechs to a point I think. But not as bad as 2
Aerofighters to a point... Thats just suicidal.
In other random thoughts, This came about because of the upcoming changes to charging rules.
I started working on maximizing charge damage under those rules and remembered I could get
+1 MP from wheeled quadvee's, and that they would concentrate damage in the legs without
needing to roll for motive damage like normal tanks. Finally I had found a niche case for
that unit type!
