Overview:
Positioned as a BattleMech alternative to the venerable SRM Carrier, Kepler Defense Group's
Pommel is a slow but powerful close-in ambusher. It didn't fully catch on due to the SRM
Carrier being 1/4th the price of the 'Mech while having four more launchers, but it still
sees use by the Capllean Confederation in environments where the quadruped's legs will get
it places the tracks of the Carrier won't be able to reach.
Capabilities:
The Pommel is built on a Kepler 60Q standard chassis, which is moved by a Ceres Motors
180-rated fusion engine and protected by 6.5 tons of Kepler Ablative Ceramosteel armor. This
makes it slow and lightly plated for its size, so it is forced to take on an ambusher role
for most loadouts. Electronics consist of a CeresCom Model 3 comms system and a Kepler
AimScope 2.5 targeting & tracking system.
The original PML-1 takes six Sian-Ceres Cougar SRM 6 launchers as its primary firepower,
supplied with eight tons of missiles. This allows it to shoot 10 volleys of 36 short-range
missiles before the 'Mech needs reloading, which has been made as quick and easy as possible
so its downtime is minimal (though this also makes it unable to accept more than one ammo
type at a time). This assumes there is a supply line to feed the missile-hungry 'Mech. In
case it runs out of firepower in the middle of a fight, a Ceres Arms Small Laser provides
emergency backup. Finally, 23 standard heat sinks are more than enough to compensate for the
launchers' waste heat.
