================================================================================================
Overview:
Meant to be a true modernization of the original Hardshot in the wake of the upheaval
wrought by the Clan Invasion, the Hardshot II was designed to be a much more efficient,
durable, and powerful supertank. Developed by TharHes Industries and Arcturan Arms, with
assistance from General Motors and Defiance Industries, the HDS-3C was meant from the outset
to be a straight upgrade over the venerable (yet derided) 1C, while riffing on the Hardshot
IIC the Clans fielded in some areas. It was also given more presence in its design, creating
a stark and intimidating silhouette on the battlefield - if at a cost of it not being to fit
in as many places as its predecessor could.
The resulting tank has been called a mobile fortress with the amount of armament in place,
much of its weapons hidden beneath armor until complex mechanisms open panels to allow them
to pop out and fire. It also features a state-of-the-art targeting computer that has a
portion of it built directly into its main cannon's systems as opposed to being merely
linked, giving it a large accuracy boost. Both of these mechanisms result in maintenance
crews having difficulty in maintaining the Hardshot II 3C, but it is generally considered
worth the trouble to have such technologies augmenting its performance. The turret is also
allowed to have its full natural turning rate.

Capabilities:
The Hardshot II is built on a new GM-made Endo-Steel frame which supports a Defiance 300 XL
engine and 22 tons of Durallex Special Ferro-Fibrous plating, in addition to all the weapons
of the tank. Communications are provided by a Arc Signal 1100, while targeting and tracking
is provided by a TharHes Super Targitrack which combines both a standard targeting/tracking
system and an advanced Targeting Computer - a package that is considered the main advantage
of the Hardshot II over both contemporary designs at the time and the original Hardshot.
The HDS-1C in particular uses a turrent-mounted GM Nova-10 Ultra Autocannon/10 as its
primary weapon, fed by a 2-ton ammo bin; coaxially mounted with it is a TharHes
Thunderbolt-12 Large Pulse Laser and a Defiance P5S Small Pulse Laser, typically concealed
under an armored panel but can be exposed for firing by the turret gunner with the push of a
button. The final turret weapon is a Coventry 5-Tube LRM-5 with an Artemis IV FCS and two
tons of missiles, mounted on the right side of the turret assembly. On the body, two Coventy
TH4b Streak SRM-4 launchers that share two tons of reloads are concealed on the rear sides
of the tank until they are needed, and the same can be said of the two Scatter Gun Light
Machine Guns sharing a singe ton of ammo mounted on the forward sides.
As previously mentioned, the Targeting Computer has direct integration with the GM Nova-10
Autocannon/10's own systems, giving it a substantial accuracy increase than if it was merely
linked. However, this and the various concealed-until-needed weapons introduce complexities
in maintenance and repair. The turret's traverse rate, meanwhile, is no longer throttled
slow as a new, less sensitive autoloader is installed for the main cannon.
DESIGN QUIRKS: Distracting, Accurate Weapon (Ultra AC/10), Difficult to Maintain
Deployment:
The Hardshot II's first major conflict would be the Federated Commonwealth Civil War,
becoming a standard supertank for the Lyran Alliance. Several participated in the various
garrison skirmishes that defined the conflict, often serving as an anchor for lighter forces
to rally around since enemy security forces usually couldn't hope to pierce its heavy
plating.
It would later enter its first total war with the Jihad, being deployed against the Word of
Blake Protectorate. Some were donated to Stone's coalition, which would end up becoming the
basis for the Republic of the Sphere's Constable supertank.
Variants:
Constable Supertank: The Constable was derived from Lyran-donated Hardshots of Stone's
coalition.
