Overview:
The original 'celebrity' unit of Task Force Talon and the main inspiration behind what would
soon become the great 3065 A.E.G.I.S. (Air Enforcement & Ground Insurance Systems)
initiative, the GLR-4T "Galeritter" is as fast as it is armored, as versatile as it is
hard-hitting. Facing a trial by fire during the Jihad, pilots of the Galeritter soon gained
a mixed reputation as both heroic and suicidal, spurred by the combination of speed and
armor that allowed them to practically gallop through enemy lines and flank just about
everything in their way.
This reputation was only reinforced by the fact that the GLR-4T's primary weapons, a pair of
medium pulse lasers, along with its nature as a C3 equipped unit, practically forced it to
always move practically into melee against their target so as to maximize its own
effectiveness in the field. Ironically, this has led to the LRM5 to be almost exclusively
used against targets which another Galeritter, or any other TAG and/or C3 equipped unit, has
decided to engage.
Nevertheless, the 'mech's success led to a small renaissance of creative design within Task
Force Talon. Ideas once thought absurd, began to be re-introduced; existing designs, proven
by decades, if not centuries, of combat were being dismissed as little more than simply the
remnants of a bygone age and a shift began towards designs made both locally and with the
current state of humanity in mind. A shift whose ramifications for TFT cannot yet be truly
measured.
Capabilities:
The GLR-4T "Galeritter" is a skirmisher through and through. Utilizing a MASC, it is able to
reach speeds that are normally only seen on hover and VTOL combat vehicles while its 10 tons
of armor make it able to easily survive anything short of a direct hit with an AC20. The
combination of a C3 Slave, TAG and Semi-guided LRM5 means that it can support its allies in
many ways while the pair of medium pulse lasers take care of the primary target up close.
Deployment:
The GLR-4T "Galeritter" can be used in both formations of other Galeritters or in the more
usual standard of more varied lances. When doing so, however, one must always take great
care to choose the correct C3 Master unit for the situation or the Galeritter's support may
end up for naught. Similarly, it is important to remember that while two medium pulse lasers
are nothing to scoff at, they are also nothing to be terrified about; enemy juggernauts can
and likely will try to bait one's GLR-4T(s) into short range only to shrug off the damage of
pulse lasers and strike back with an array of SRMs, an AC20 or even both. In any case, it is
advised to never allow a Galeritter to stand still and never bring them too close to
dedicated close range heavies, such as an Atlas, unless said heavy has already moved, can be
flanked and lacks significant fire support.
Variants:
The GLR-4 "Galeritter" has three variants.
The first is the GLR-4T, which is described above.
The second is the GLR-4M, which was designed in parallel to the 4T and used an MRM10 with 2
tons of ammo in place of the two medium Pulse lasers, ER small laser and half a ton of
armor. This variant never made it past prototyping due to considerably sub-par results in
trials and has thus never been deployed.
The third is the GLR-4L, which was developed in 3070, shortly after the success of the
WRN-9PL "Wrangler". This variant uses a light fusion engine and replaces 1.5 tons of armor
along with all equipment, except the C3 Slave and MASC, with two Large Pulse Lasers. The
resulting unit is a terrifying mixture of speed, firepower and still fair armor; one that
often times needs little support as it tears through enemy lines and even neutralizes the
flaw of needing to get too close against heavier enemies. A fact that usually makes the
GLR-4L into a priority target on the field.
