BattleMech: Penetrator Christifori PTR-4DC
Rating: 4.00
Comment: Oh lord is this mech good. But two things always stuck out in my mind about his modifications. One was his mech was really really cool. The other is that his mech never jumped. The third thing is that through it all his AMS works.

So pulling the 4 JJ for 2 or 3 heat sinks and 1 to 2 tons of AMS ammo would probably hold more true.

I've personally never liked the mech. Its good but those are IS pulses, which means that you've got to close a lot. Which is a good idea in every case but when your the commander of a multi batalion force.

Its basically a Warhammer with ER Larges instead of PPCs, and different/shorter ranged in close weaponry.

Comment: Couple of questions. IF this is touring clan space does this mean its a Steiner design that has a weird engine for them. Is it a Draconis design? Who does it belong to?

This mech suffers from not enough ranged weaponry for its heat sinks, and too much in close weaponry for its heat sinks. Making it kind of an odd design. Gives you a lot of choices, but at the same time limits you to only some of them.

The XL engine isn't a good idea in an Assault mech, other assault mechs will eat it for breakfast. You need to stick with standard engines unless you mount Guardian or Stealth armour.

I do like the rear armour, and the CASE. But thats only a small thing in the end.

BattleMech: Centurion CN9-17
Rating: 3.00
Comment: For a Centurion its miles ahead of its competition. However, Centurions for the most part have never turned my crank.

They suffer from several issues. One is only average speed for a "Battle" mech. Then the lack of jets, plus the capability to lose your only real weapon to having an arm removed.

Plus I like 5 or 7 points of armour on my rear torso. 4 Makes Rifle infantry platoon a serious threat if they pop up behind you.

I'm not sure what it is about centurions but they always seem to be really weak for their tonnage. Although they are cool running which is a bonus some days and for some peoples.

Comment: The jump jets seem odd. You need to many other upgrades to make it effective and Liao. You could have squeezed in another ton of ammo, with no CASE.

We're talking House Sacrifice not Marik or Davion. Plus, pulling off the jump jets gets you the 1.5 tons to put on the ECM and turn the armour into stealth.

Still its an effective upgrade.

BattleMech: Vulture K
Rating: 1.00
Comment: A lot of fluff errors. More armour than the base Mad Dog allows. Placement of stuff in areas that are claimed by base chassis stuff.

I'm not liking it. For a clan mech its really short ranged. You expect a Clan Guass, LRM 20 or ER PPC on a heavy mech. Not a pair of Large Lasers.

Too much ammo for a short ranged weapon setup, makes me scratch my head. Also this mech has no real way of dealing with heat. Either its way over what it wants to be, or sinks a bunch. Its like it wasn't thought through for vanilla combat.

BattleMech: Vulture I

Comment: Okay, ATMs are like spice. They're good in a certain quantity. YOu need an energy weapon if only because at some point your armour gets thin and you HAVE to dump ammo so that you can continue fighting.

With all ammo based missile racks your kind of locked in. You need an energy weapon or four to make up for this dependency.

As it is, its an unabashed ammo addict with no use for raiding of long term battles against IS units.

BattleMech: Rifleman RFL-82s

Comment: Well in certain cases lots of heat is a godo thing. When you have no real range brackets. Its got a psuedo bracket with 2 ER Larges, and then the 2 ER Mediums and 2 LPL. However, they're are medium mechs who seem to out gun you effectively.

The XL engine guts this design. YOu don't want your new top end idea to fall apart when someone gets a lucky back shot in on you.

BattleMech: Stinger STG-6X
Rating: 2.00
Comment: Everytime I see a fast jumper... I think of Spiders. Then I realise that you guys have once again used a different chassises.

The Stinger isn't all that great in this case. You've spent a great deal of money on a mech that doesn't do much more than a stock spider does.

The fluff and interesting idea of a college student body being able to afford a multi million c-bill repair project makes it worthy of the odd point boost though.

The armour is too thin, the weapons are short ranged and force you to abuse your thin armour in a fight... which will be lethal.

Maybe as a solaris dueler it might have a hope.

BattleMech: Nova G2
Rating: 1.00
Comment: Lousy mech, no fluff. basically even clan 25 tonners would eat it for breakfast. Plus, with no justification on the TC, pulses I'm never going to be happy.

Too few weapons, average speed for a clan medium, and lots of electronics you usually see on clan lights.

BattleMech: Black Mamba BKM-A4
Rating: 1.50
Comment: Okay, usually I'm all for secondary weaponry to back up my main long ranged weapons. However, when it does less damage than just firing your main gun and you don't have enough in close things to matter. Why bother. Just mount in jump jets and stick with the DUAL PPC weapon set up.

I question also House Steiner letting anyone not tied to them closely a look at their Light engine technology. Letting random mercenaries buy them is asking for someone else to reverse engineer them.

The year is nice, and well thought out for this general idea though. Could use a ER PPC on an arm so you have some hope of firing backwards, or at least get better arcs when your desperate.
