If you had the choice, which RPG/gaming system would you attempt to translate into Mechwarrior so that you could use it there as well?

I know of folks using GURPS as a stand in for Mechwarrior 2 and a lot of folks I know stayed with either using GURPS or one of the other generic systems, over MW3.
Two of my good friends that play BT,took what they wanted out of MW2, mixed it to GURPS and some stuff from Traveler to get what they felt was the perfect RPG for BT.
I, personally used the MW2 rules as a guideline and then went with what I felt was the way to play. Seemed to work since no one complained.
But mostly folks seem to go with GURPS or any other system that allows you to be generic so as to get what you want. Now the new D20 system has some possibilites, but then you would be forced to work around the Star Wars stuff.

I tried Shadowrun and Cyberpunk RPG stuff for the outside the mech stuff. I also used the Ctberpunk PA suit stuff to get an initial handle on designing custom Battle armor. Cyberpunk is OOP, Shadowrun probably is too, considering it was a FASA game.
I had conversion stuff rigged up to translate weapons and gear back and forth. Since I replaced my old computer with one that does not have a Zip disc, where the files are at, I have not been able to acess them. I am going to have to get a USB Zip eventually. That is after I replace the car.

That just got me thinking. What If you took the Shadowrun universe and moved it forward/melted it into the Btech universe? Elves and Dwarves Piloting Mechs? Riggers with remote operated Mechs? Deckers tryingo to hack into Comstar data bases? Perhaps to much like Warhammer 40K? mmmmmh, was Takashi Kurita a real dragon.....

Some of the possibilities that did occur to me. But I stayed strictly mundane, tech only.
There are some pretty wild shadowrun campaigns out there. There were a couple that firgured out that there was a Galactic Biosphere that could be plugged into. They must have read the Starchilde series.

I never got into Shadowrun. I was always a Cybyerpunk 2020 guy. Loved that system and loved playing the game. Cyberpunk doesn't have the magic, which is nice if you want to keep that crap out of your games. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

I used HERO, but the same basic idea--a generic system would be easiest and require a lot less work.

For 3 years I ran Btech using the Hero system. Really helped keeping all the NPC mechwarriors from looking the same. Also expirence made much more sense. Even the 2nd edition could be tweaked to open it a little more.

The 5th edition of the HERO system is at the printer right now, and it reportably has a section for mecha in it.
I'll let you know after I get it
