Ok. I can fully understand. Is the difference between a Marauder sinking 16 heat or sinking 22 heat. It would allow 2 PPC + AC/5 every turn. Or the ability to squeeze a few more weapons on a Awesome, swap 6 or so SHS for a few DHS-P.

Okay, I've been giving this some more thought. Thanks for all the feedback. Last weekend at TotalCon, we played with Clans for the BattleTech Finals, and although it was fun, it certainly reinforced the OP nature of the Clan technology, even against each other. Heavies and Assaults were destroyed fast and furious in many ways, including head capping guass. In 2 consecutive turns, Chihawk destroyed a mint Hellbringer (one being me) in his own heavy. Once from the rear and once from the side torso.

So again I got to thinking (for my own personal use) about designing these to be more long lasting, yet still different from the I.S. designs. And perhaps becoming more fun/challenging to play.

For my experiment, (Still all IS Tech) I'm allowing DHS, but only the freebies with the engine, XL engines, Ultra/LBX AC2 and AC5, Anti-missle system, any civil war era advanced non-weapon tech, Artemis IV, but still only other 3025 weapons. (still no case)

The goal in mind, is that this would be the tech they could use against other clans, or against I.S. Mechs which would be limited to only 3025 tech.

I'm trying to design with longevity in the forefront, so close to max armor as possible.

I'm also trying to give them all Improved C3i, to give them a gunnery edge without actually having to lower their gunnery skill. Obviously more helpful when in combat as a star formation (which is still tactically superior than fighting as a lance)

Interesting idea on the DHS. Engine only vs DHS-P which is outside engine only.

And still thinking you should use the Clan Improved items in Interstellar Ops.

I think what you may be looking for is already in Interstellar Operations (p. 95). Here it talks about early Clan Improved equipment. Essentially taking things that were available to the Inner Sphere during the Exodus, but changing the technology base of them to Clan. So you have things like Clan Large Lasers, Clan PPCs, Clan SRMs/LRMs, etc. For the most part, they are identical to the Inner Sphere versions at that time. So around ~2820, you can build these Clan designs, but utilize the IS technology weapons.
