I´ve never liked the Cyclops.
You can get the same weapons, armor and speed combination for about 25 tons less.
It has brutal shortrange firepower but only light longrange cover and armor. |

Not bad, but far from fool-proof. The problem lies in thin armor and AC/20. Anything armed with heavy AC are probably going to have enemy attention as soon as it enter range and the Cyclops has a lot of reasons to close. Single LRM 10 is not enough to provide sufficient long range cover, but it's better than nothing. Short range firepower is great, but you need to use it wisely, or you'll have ninety tons of scrap metal. |

Powerful weapon loadouts allow this mech to stand toe to toe with most assaults. The speed allows it to be placed in any heavy lance but the armour is light. BV, as expressed before is excellent for an assualt. The AC20 is just deadly in the 3025 era. |

If you don't think you're going to run into any other assault 'mechs, go with this. The BV is cheap, and it's a serious threat to most targets. It's got the firepower to put a serious hurting on heavy 'mechs, although the armor leaves a bit to be desired.
In campaigns the ground-space communications this offers can be invaluable, probably this 'mech's biggest asset. |

As has been pointed out by Jymset and noted by other probably.
BV is what makes this mech valuable. Fast enough to work in a Support Lance with other ranged mechs and with an AC 20 to keep the rest of the lance covered this mech absolutely covers all its bases.
However, the thin armour means your never going to fire all those AC 20 shells though. So have something bigger and nastier around to catch the fire. |
