Overview:
    The experience with the Berserker project, both before and during the FedCom Civil War, gave
    the Federated Suns a great deal of experience with massive hatchet-armed assault ?Mechs.
    General Motors of Kathil in particular believed that they could do a better job with the
    concept at a lower cost.   Working with what scraps of information from the project as well
    as intel and combining it with their own experience with assault ?Mechs and backing from the
    AFFS, the GM engineers were able to bring the new design to fruition in less than 6 years.
    The as-yet unnamed ?Mech was put through its paces, where the GM test-pilots likened the
    experience to sitting inside a crematorium.   The General Motors engineers liked the sound
    of it, and dubbed the new design the Crematoria.

Capabilities:
    The Crematoria was designed around combining triple-strength myomeres with a massive hatchet
    for close-quarters combat.   To that end, the ?Mech is designed around a brace of energy
    weapons to generate the heat needed to energize the myomeres.   The core of this firepower
    are the two Johnston High-Speed ERPPCs, which also provide long-ranged and accurate
    firepower with the advanced Bergstrom Type 7 targeting system.   Matched sets of
    Bright-Bloom ER and Martell pulse medium lasers, which are also tied into the Type 7, both
    provide close range support and enable the pilot to better manage the heat levels.   As a
    nod to the original Berserker, a single Ronson flamer is mounted in the head to give the
    image of a metal giant breathing fire.
    
    The Crematoria was designed with a solid yet relatively simple chassis that could both
    support some of the heaviest armor found on any ?Mech with the enhanced leg structure to
    endure the crushing pressures generated by the HLJS Type 100 jump jets.   The Type 100 jets
    are some of the most massive ever produced, and use a complex set of valves to generate the
    thrust necessary to lift the ?Mech while being relatively light.   Working with the
    energized triple-strength myomeres, a Crematoria can use its massive hatchet to nearly
    cleave a light ?Mech in half with one stroke.   Indeed, the image of a fire breathing metal
    giant wielding a massive hatchet while jumping and wreathed in flames from the heat sinks
    provides an image that can terrorize most opponents.

Deployment:
    The CR-31R4 was initially not a popular ?Mech, as most Davion MechWarriors thought it had
    too much of a Steiner influence.   As they grew to know the strengths of the ?Mech, though,
    they grew to love its strength and durability.   Unit commanders also grew to like the
    Crematoria for its relatively low cost and dependability.   While not a widely seen ?Mech,
    the Crematoria has made a name for itself in assault lances.   As to be expected for such a
    visually striking design, it has begun to make a name for itself in the Solaris VII matches.
    The low cost has been made even lower for Davion fighters through discounts, and has even
    been made the signature ?Mech for the reconstituted Black Star Stables.

Variants:
    Due to the complex set of heat sinks as well as the intricate targeting system tied to the
    weapons, the Crematoria has proven highly resistant to modifications.   The only one yet
    seen is ?Hotstreak? Faulken?s version, which replaces the pulse lasers with two additional
    Bright-Blooms and adds a pair of Magna 200p pulse lasers to the back of the legs to protect
    against sneak attacks from that quarter.

Notable MechWarriors:
    Harold ?Hotstreak? Faulken
    ?Hotstreak? Faulken is one of the more gifted Black Star fighters, having risen rapidly
    through the circuits to be picked up by the stable.   An ardent Davionist, Faulken has been
    putting one of the first Crematoria through its paces, where his hair-trigger temper seems
    to be perfectly matched with the fiery ?Mech.   It has been observed that it almost seems at
    times to be a perfect outwards reflection of his personality.   While Faulken has issued a
    challenge for a Steiner Warrior with a Berserker to meet him in combat to see which design
    is better, none has yet come forward to take up the challenge.
