The Jenner has always been one of Winters most favorite mechs, having piloted one during his time with the DCMS. Having accumulated enough capitol to add a new mech line to his factory, Winters saw his chance show love to his one time favorite.
The new variant cost more than two million four hundred thousand more c-bills than the original. A radical departure considering the firm's first foray into battle mech production. For such a price jump, most were expecting something incredible. When the design schematics were shown, people were less than pleased.
The damage potential was considered too similar. The speed was the same and mobility was dropped by a full 30 meters. While the armor protection was nearly doubled, the design had the inherent vulnerability associated with an XL engine.
When told this, Winters merely laughed before saying,
"The Jenner is a beautiful mech that's designed to fight and hit hard which is why it was never given any hands. It's not a scout nor is it a sniper. This mech is a fighter." |
Testing of the new prototypes revealed much about the new Jenner's capabilities. The new MRM's helped not only to create a broader demand for the new systems and foster a business friendship with other firms, but the range increase helped boost the design's performance immensly.
Other designs with greater firepower but shorter range often came out of battles with more damage. Longer range meant less damage given and recieved in many cases.
With the Jenner's speed and the capabilities of the MRM's, the Jenner could hit hard, fast, and fade away before suffering too much from return fire.
The jump jets helped to provide the model with the ability to traverse difficult terrain without having to be excessive. This was also necessary due to all the space being used by the advanced construction materials (endo steel, ferro fibrous, double heat sinks, etc.)
Two tons of ammo was deemed more than adequate for the three launchers.
An ER medium laser was added as a back up weapon, having been purchased by the League for it's performance. |
| With support from Colby, the Legions of Vega, several prominant Jenner pilots, and promotional vids that showed their Jenner beating a Clan version, sales have started high. Whether they remain so has yet to be seen. |
D. Winters himself piloted the prototype during it's impressive test trials and has used one in several personal duels (all of which were recorded in order to appeal to DCMS warriors)
*Not the greatest design, I know, but this is my favorite mech, having used this in many battletech sessions* |
