A design doomed to failure, the Ono was the brain child of Donovan Kurita. Born from a Combine noble and a no name mistress who rose to the rank of Hauptmann within the Steiner military, Donovan was considered an embarrassment since birth. Subject to scandal, the Ono seems to have inherited the Dragon's disdain.
Because of his upbringing, Donovan was stubborn and determined to prove his worth by taking several other hated concepts and pushing forward.
Hoping to capitalize on what little he could gain from his name, Donovan had hoped to erase the stigma of his existence by developing a Mech which would bring the DCMS the same success that the Hatchetman had brought it's enemies.
Using several rediscovered Von Rohrs/Hebis chassis and the Hatchet's acquired through salvage, the Ono was born following the ensuing peace after the War of 3039. |
Thirteen tons of armor provides the Ono with nearly maximum armor protection, allowing the design to withstand considerable punishment.
120 meter jump jets were added in order to maintain mobility on par with it's predecessor. This coupled with it's Fourteen heat sinks gives the mech considerable endurance in many situations.
A Magna Hellstar PPC was equipped to provide the Ono with some long range firepower. This weapon compared well to the Hatchetman's AC/10, providing similiar damage while simultaneously increasing it's range and eliminating the need for ammo on it's primary weapon.
At nearly double the weight, the Hatchet which is supposed to be the design's true claim to fame, performed well under test. To support this weapon, twin Medium Lasers were installed, accompanied by a SRM 6 missle system for additional close range power. |
Despite performing well in mock simulations, it's performances were considered to marginal to be deemed worthy of production. Being 20 tons heavier than it's counterpart, opponents of the Ono viewed the Mech to have only a slight edge over the Hatchetman.
This rating, coupled with the fact that the DCMS despised the idea of using such a barbaric weapon that originated from it's enemy, basing the Mech off a chassis that reminded the Combine people of the horrible Von Rohrs legacy, and originating from someone who was already deemed a disgrace in everyone's eyes, the High Command gave the design a failing grade.
Only the original four prototypes were then produced and these were taken with Donovan during his self imposed exile. |
Because this mech's existence mirrors his own so much, Donovan Kurita is the most famous person that everyone seems to be trying to forget. This castout, left Combine space in order to become a pirate and live a life free from society.
A skilled mechwarrior, Donovan has raided many Combine worlds, venting his anger and frustrations on the people whom he believed abandoned him.
Though he left to be free, he still seems to be chained to the past. |

A well armored and respectably armed 'Mech for lvl 1 tech, but it should have come sooner. It would be a very good unit for the war of 3039, but it gets outdated quickly without upgrades. With the clans and newer IS units reaching the battlefield in greater numbers the Ono has to retreat either to the role of an ambusher, or to that of a shield. Attempting to run down the enemy while catching the shots that would otherwise target better armed units behind it. It's armament resemble the old 5SS Thunderbolt, but the heat dissipation lacks the capacity to handle everything. Nothing an experienced pilot couldn't handle. I think that using the right terrain and aggressive tactics would be the key to this 'Mech. No foolish fire exchanges with gauss carriers. |
