Overview:
A munch mech with long fluff, forgive me if i made silly gramatical/spelling errors or u
just hate such long fluff text :)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Galahad (Glass Spider) was a rather unqiue mech, boasting flippable arms like the
Rifleman, armed with a pair of Gauss rifles, the Galahad can easily knock out aircraft just
as it can knock out land craft. The Galahad II by Clan Wolf was slightly different, boasting
multiple pulse laser batteries all slaved to a Targeting Computer, the Galahad II was easily
one of the best anti-aircraft and ground support unit available. Although the Galahad pilots
themselves detest being used for firesupport only, many of them were more than capable of
pounding Innersphere mechs to dust with their Galahads which made regaining honor fast and
easy.
The largest numbers of Galahad IIs were often found in the hands among Clan Wolf and thus
when Clan Wolf in Exile broke away, they had several Galahad IIs of their own. Now in dire
need to produce mechs that are capable of handling multiple threats and for garrison, Clan
Wolf in Exile intially turn to the Galahad II, but the Galahad II was considered too fragile
for the task at hand. So Phelan Kell ordered the construction of a new assault class
battlemech that was based on the proven Galahad II design. By using the mechanics available
from current Galahad IIs, Clan Wolf in Exile engineers were able to construct and design the
new mech very quickly, in half the time required for a Clan Omni-mech.
Capabilities:
Like its lighter cousins it was based on the Galahad III retains the flipping arms which
enables the mech to swing its arms in a 360 degree motion, enabling it to track and fire at
aerial or rear targets with great ease. However unlike the other Galahads, the Galahad III
is extremely well protected. Reason given that its much cheaper to service a badly crippled
mech than to make a new one. Although the armor is old style and not the newer Ferro
Fibrous, it boast 19 solid tons of thickly clad protection all sloped to provide greater
deflection from enemy attacks. Also the old fashion style armor is much easier and cheaper
to produce which is a boon for Clan Wolf in Exile who have to manage resources carefully.
A 300 power rated GM fusion engine was used as the mech's main power pack. Although much
heavier than Clan XL engines, its was also cheaper and easier to obtain from the low tech
Innersphere states. The only expensive piece of equipment used in construction was the use
of Endo Steel II Internal Construction. While expensive, it allows the Galahad III to have
just that extra bit of tonnage to squeeze in more stuff that mechwarriors always need.
Firepower wise, the Galahad III was more inspired by the Galahad II more for practical
reasons. A heavy energy based loadout made more sense to Clan Wolf designers, since it would
reduce the need for frequent ammo reloads and save more cash in the long run. The bulk of
the mech firepower lies in its arms, 2 pairs of Kolibri Delta Large Pulse Lasers in each arm
provide the bulk of its firepower. Far more powerful than its IS counterpart and far
reaching, this quad of laser death can easily carve through anything the Innersphere can
throw at the Galahad III. Past experiences with the Galahad weak close range firepower
warranted the inclusion of a pair of J6 Streak SRM6 Launchers. Although expensive, the
Streak system will ensure the mech will never miss again at close range brawls and dish out
some real hurt to anything that comes too close. 2 Kolibri Small Pulse Lasers round out the
weapon array, serving as a close range hitter and for anti-personal use. To ensure that
inferior 2nd line pilots will never miss their targets, the Galahad III mounts a Targetting
Computer like the Galahad II. Although extremely expensive and rare, it has proven its worth
in the Galahad II and countless stimulations where the Galahad III engaged large swarms of
aircrafts and groundcraft extremely quickly and accurately.
To keep the mech cool, the Galahad III boast a total of 21 Clan grade double strength
freezers, which should enable the Galahad III to fire all 4 Large pulse lasers while running
with impunity. However, the mech cannot take repeated abuse with Alpha Strikes which clan
warriors always enjoy when facing upclose to the enemy. Designers and techs have always
warned their warrior bethren not to overdo with such abuse, however many such good advise
often fall to death ears.
Deployment:
Only available to Clan Wolf in Exile, this mech serves as the heavy garrison guards of the
Wolf Clan Site 3 and Site 1 where Clan Wolf in Exile's precious mech factories lie. To date
its believed there is only 1 binary (2 Stars) worth of these mechs existing in Clan Wolf in
Exile by Our Blessed Order.
Although the Galahad III has extremely high damage potential and can be very devastating,
Clan warriors has always looked down on 2nd line mech's in general and even moreso a fire
support mech, which means it will not be produced in very large numbers. This is very
fortunate for the Innersphere since mechs like the Galahad III can equal or even exceed some
Clan Assault Omnimechs in performance while costing half the price and resources.
