I've been mentally plotting out a Mechwarrior video game set in the alternate universe I've been working on.

The premise would be that your character is a mechwarrior who just made sergeant the day before the Word of Blake dropped onto your planet. With most of the senior command in your unit either MIA or KIA, your company commander is now in charge of the planet's resistance. As the command lance is needed at your base to serve as a garrison, each mech in the fire and scout lances has been made its own lance (for the sake of puffing up the numbers) and set to different missions. You and your Commando are "Kappa Lance", and as such your primary mission is recon-in-force. It's just you, whatever pilots you can scrounge up, and whatever mechs you can scavenge from off of the field.

Fortunately for you, the AFNN (Armed Forces of New Nauvoo) had smuggled a team onto your planet shortly before the Blakists arrived in the hopes of setting up an intelligence cell. The commander of this team, "Engel", pilots this here modified Wyvern; the rest of the team includes a Fury tank (commanded by his wife), four APCs, and a flight of drone aircraft.

The Fury (et al) will eventually headquarter itself at your base to assist in the defenses, while Engel remains in the field; depending upon the mission, he will either go ahead and feed you information, or watch your back in the event of traps.

why not drop the twin 5s and put in a lrm 10?

That would work better and take care of the that extra ton that is just there. I like the LRM10 vs two LRM5.

By going for twin 5s, that allows a few key things:

1. redundancy - I can lose one launcher but still have the other going.

2. ammo - I can have one launcher firing an alternate ammo type

3. gameplay - the Mechwarrior computer games make you actually set aside tonnage for things like light amplification.
