Alright! Enough already! I'ts bad enough that I've lost to two Wraiths in Chihawks last two PBeM games, (piloted by Mordel, and ICER) but to get plastered by a rookie pilot? This mech must be BANNED.
It must be utterly destroyed, wiped clean off the memory banks, forgotten,Kimsheed, exiled, recinded, forbidden, canned, sent to it's room, banished, exorcised, decimated, sent to siberia, imprisoned on Elbe, verbotten, transfered to the Russian front, vaporized, and ultimately obliterated!!!!!!!
On Memorial Day Sunday, Hardware (Nightsky) and his girlfriend (dreaded Wraith), beat me (Phawk K, and Trebuchet K:MRM version) at my OWN home! After blooding each other for a few rounds, my Phawk lay on the ground missing a leg. The NSky went over to finish him and my Treb knocked out his gyro and destroyed and arm rendering him useless. But that damn minty wraith who jumped 7 hexes into woods each turn then finished off my Treb, and even though I got the Phawk to stand I surrendered as even a stiff wind would've taken me down at that point.
The Wraith design is a curse upon myself and my family and I must rid myself of it's existance! Perhaps it is time to talk to my Reverend.
Maybe I'll just drop my Wraith figure from the top of the Prudential building

Cheap maneuver, isn't it? Next time pick up a pulse/TC monster to counter it.

Ask Hardware if he's ever seen a mech DFA and miss, and then stand and charge, only to miss. And then succesfully push only to have a leg ripped off by being kicked

Wraith is some bad, yes, minted out of the evil, evil book of doom. Want to see why I like 3025-feel better than 3067? There you go, right there.
That said, there are sme ways to stop it. First and foremost, screw battlevalue, which terribly undervalues a machien like this, and go with cost. At, if memory serves, 15 million C-bills each, a Wraith costs about as much as a lance of older mechs.
Still not enough? Try a game fought on a Hot World, where DHS are as useful as singles. That puts a kibosh on them *real* fast.
Lastly, you can give him his own medicine, with Pulse/TC blasting.
The best way, of course, is to say, "Hey, let's play a level 1 game!"

It's not the wraith that stings so much as being killed by a player in only her third game.
And yes, that missed DFA, missed charge, and successful push, followed by an inglorious death was me. That was the Kathy's second game of B'tech, but it was Chihawk who was doing the kicking.
Hey Chihawk, why don't you tell 'em who I was pushing off the map and who Kathy killed in her first game?

I believe you were pushing Mordel of the map a couple turns after I was chanting "DFA! DFA!" at you, while I was very far away from the 2 of you I might add
To be honest I'm not sure who killed me in the "Battle of the Assaults". I presume it was the winner of the Kathy-Eiler battle as my mech was missing a leg, an arm, and I was unconscious. I made a HUGE (should almost make that font size 7 and bold ) tactical error and had to run straight at 2 guass rifles for 4 turns to try and get back into the battle.

Yeah, that's certainly part of it! And I don't think her maneuvering was "cheap". Taking advantage of your mech's abilities is formost to good tactics. It's just that I couldn't counter it. And the few times I got a decent shot, my dice went south of course.

I, being part of that battle, was privy to helpful advice from Chihawk, such as, "I'm almost dead anyway, don't waste ammo on me", just before he'd unload on me with his stationary but almost fully weapons-functional mech. If I remember correctly, I disabled Chihawk with a strategically-placed kick at the same instant I disabled Wraith by unloading into her breached chest armor.
But to be fair to the veteran players in this game, they constantly said things to the novices like, "Do yourself a favor, jump three hexes back", or "Now move forward three hexes, fire your Gauss rifles at that target, and your lasers at that other target".

I was kind of wondering why you charged a practically impregnable position while exposing yourself to flank fire at the start of the game.

My dear Horiho you have failed in a item of honor. Let them choose the mechs, and you offer to go with 10 less tons, or 15% less BV, or 2 million less C bills, then when you see the mech of your nightmares.... you flip over the basic map set to the plain white hexed side and state you are fighting there. Yep that usally fixes their little red wagon. And if they complain..... say I gave up something, so should you. I think the Whitworth may be a good mech, LRMS to blast "it" approachs, and MLs to blast it up close.
BTW how tall is the Prudential building? I had a Vulcan take a 30ft header and do OK, My Warhammer that took a 15 foot head one day did not fair so well.
AWAD- Still like the idea of using 20 tons mechs for one way DFAs from space

Not quite sure, but it ist the tallest building in New England. The John Hancock building which is in the same area of Boston actually sits higher as it is on higher ground to begin with, but the Pru has more stories IIRC.
