I use Micro Machines and Titanium Series for nearly all of my conventional and aerospace forces. I play miniatures rules instead of mapsheets, and usually use a 2- or 3-inch hex. which I think makes things a little easier. Most them are unbased, just because I think they look better
Each side of a hex is 30 degrees different than the sides it's connected to. With a little eyeballing, you can rotate a mini 30 degrees. You can also cut a hex from paper or cardboard and use that as a template.
