I came up with this on the way back from work today. The basic idea is that Defenders are fighting a losing battle, and is in danger of being overrun (reinforced heavy/assault company vs. medium/heavy battalion?).
Side thought: perhaps this can be a group scenario, with each player controlling a certain number of forces (Defenders have one player per lance, with Assaulters having one player per two lances?). Play would progress simultaneously between several boards? Perhaps players could move forces from table to table to reinforce different areas?

The balancing factor is that the defenders have artillery and air support (how much of each? When should the airstrikes be able to start? Two minutes in? Five?), with a Warship approaching strike position (Ten minutes?).

The objective for the Defenders is to have at least one battlemech operational by the time the Warship is able to bring its guns to bear, at which point the Assaulting forces will be destroyed (they do not know when the Warship will arrive?). The objective for the Assaulters is to eliminate all Defender forces before the Warship arrives. There are no victory conditions (minor victory, major victory, etc), simply a win/lose scenario.

Now I, not being well-versed in actual play, have little idea how to fully pull this idea together. That's where I hope you guys can help.

My hope of this scenario is to simulate the panicked feel of many video games (Call of Duty) and war movies (Saving Private Ryan, We Were Soldiers), where the defenders must call on everything they have (artillery shields, air support, terrain, etc.) to desperately hold on until help arrives or the situation breaks.

A WarShip? Isn't orbital bombardment against the Ares Conventions?

First rule of scenario creation:

Keep it as simple as possible.

True enough.

Still, it kinda sounds like fun, don't it?

Sure, it'll be fun. You just need to figure a good balance between forces fitted to your mapsheet layout and then come up with a time limit.

Outnumbered defenders? One lance against two on two standard mapsheets can lose very quickly. It gets worse when the mechs are cutting-edge killing machines, of course. Me and my mate resolved the Monte Diablo scenario in nine or ten turns, and that was with somewhat equal forces.
