Overview:

In early June of 3025, ComStar became aware of a small Invader Class Jumpship, The Repulse Carrier, having long unexplained journeys. With the rarity of Jumpships, there travels are well documented, and their routes well taken care of. Jumpships do not disappear without reason and of course the local rummor mill was abuzz.

ROM decided to investigate and was soon in posession of the answer. House Liao was attempting what few other Houses were willing to do in the early half of the 31st centuary: Rebuild their industry. The Repulse was going to be the beggining of home grown, cheap and available weapons for House Liao.

It appeared to be a private project, little known by the higher ups of the Liao government. Project Repulse was a short lived project with one goal: create a cheap, dependable, long lasting hovercraft that can be massed produced and used in defense of the State. Unfortanitly, when it was learned that resources were being diverted to the project, those responcible were quietly removed and replaced with those who had their "priorities" in order. The Repulse soon faded from the thoughts of the Liao military.

However, not everyone forgets a project quickly. Although the Repulse was stuck on a shelf, and its production site, a jump outside of Liao space in a forgotten and uninhabited system, the potential of the Repulse was never forgotten. In 3058 the Repulse was brought back to the fore, as a potential bid to win support by the crown for production. Lobying closer to the throne, however, led to the production of the Po and the shunning of the Repulse. Hurt, but not stopped, the design team decided it was time to test their machine in new waters.

With little more then 20 demonstration models they began circulating HPG messages to the various governments. Only one replied, the Marian Hegemony, looking for a unit to help support the new Gladius. The deal made the design team finally began to see the production of their weapon.

Capabilities:

The value of a hovercraft lies in its ability to move over fairly loose terrain quickly. Prized in hit and run raids, hovercraft are a highly flexable weapon. The Repulse attempts to capitilize on this feature.

As the Gladius, the Repulse has been modified so that it can be built 100% in the Marian Hegemony. The weapon systems, such as the SRM and Rockets were easy to construct, but the cannon, a unique weapon not seen in widespread use confused the Hegemony for a time, but the design team was able to show them how simple the weapon was to construct.

The tank is fast, as fast as the Gladius itself. Although less well armored, its turret allows it to move its primary weapons to bear on any target, an advantage in fast mobile combat. This fixes the flaw of the Gladius, but many point out that it replaces the flaw with light armor.

The orginial design team was startled by the ingenuity of the Marian Hegemony when they brought forth their own contributions to the design. The HMG and Rocket Launchers. Although the machine guns are fairly heavy, their combat effectiveness could not be underrated, and they were therefore attached to the machine. The Repulse was able to take the extra weight without problem, and many shrugged it off as a minor alteration.

However, when the Repulse Mk2 began its early testings one of the desingers noticed large gaps in the front armor, covered only with minor plates. Their Hegemony counterparts only grinned and told showed them the new Rocket Launchers, hidden under the panals. The Repulse has a one strike hidden weapon, like a poison dart, ready to slash out and inflict surprise damage.

Overall the new design is considered very effective and is expected to go into production in early 3065, nearly 40 years after its inception.

Battle History:

Although the Repulse has not been in production, its trial varients have actually seen some action.

Although House Liao was not going to produce the Repulse, it decided it still needed any war machine that it could get its hands on when it began its battle with the St. Ives Compact. As such spare Repulses, long consigned to remote backwater worlds and militias, were brought into service with other older vehicles. Used as scouts and harrassers, they performed with skill and many commanders were impressed with their ability to engage the enemy.

The Marian Hegemony has used a number of the Mk 2 designs in combat testing trials. Again seeing use as scouts, the Mk 2 has been used in small engagements. The most notable of these have been surprisingly against Cicinus Federation troops in surprise attacks orchestrated at the slightest provocation. These developments bare watching.

Variants:

The only varient is the Mk 1 which drops the machine guns and rocket launchers for armor. This is a heavily armored designed, and is considered superiour to the Gladius.

Deployment

Currently the trial varients of the Repulse are deployed with the Capellen Confederation Armed Forces and the Marian Hegemony Armed Forces. the CCAF uses the Mk 1 with one ton extra armor rather then the Mk 2 with the rocket launchers.

It is expected that the Repulse will only see buyers within the Periphery, with House Liao purchasing a small number. Most other houses will stick with tried and true designs. The Taurian Concordat, buyers of the Gladius, have expressed an interest in this new design as well. In the Hegemony, it should be noted that the primary archetect of the deals for the Repulse is one Julius O'Reilly, heir to the throne. What his plans for the Repulse consist of are currently unknown.

Simple DON'T use HTML or BBCODE, post the text with simple tags in HTML and then none of the wacky spaces are there and the size of the text is readable.

Do not use the HTML code. Just cut and paste from the HMP text file.

then use this code

[B][font size=3][pre] (use < > in place of []) You may have some issue with the fluff. But you just need to add a font size to it.

Check out my last few designs. Go to edit. and see what I did.

Hope that helped.
