Heck, half the time the players are running the storyline. When they go too wrtong a narural disaster occurs that gets them to scratch their heads. The group I was with usually got the hint. The Idea is to have fun, but keep it "real" within the bounds of the game.
Who do you think developed the weird tech I comne up with? Wasn't me. I just made it hard as seemed reasonable, they merely got lucky at the right times.

Getting into the conversation a tad late, I know (hey, this is my first trip into this section of Mordel's...what can I say?)...
Just in case you have not already, you might want to check out the Faiths and Pantheons book that recently came out for the Forgotten Realms...nice hardcover that combines all three of the older Gods and priests books (ie, Faiths and Avatars, Powers and Pantheons and Demihuman Deities) into one source...also provided is 20 new prestige classes for "specialty priests" of some of the faiths (including my two favs, Selune's Silverstars and Eilistraee's Sword Dancers), and stats for many of the Gods and Goddesses and their avatars...VERY nice sourcebook...
There is another book that came out recently too...Deities and Demigods, IIR the name correctly...that details some of the other pantheons of our myths, as well as the GreyHawk one...I don't have that sourcebook though, so I've only thumbed through it a bit...

I guess that is edition number 3 or 4 for the dietys and demigods.
Does this one include the cthulu, melnibone' and similar book derived deities? _________________ Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side & a dark side, and strings also lie under it all.

that is so true. But the story laid out. Is one the players rarely follow.
As Rarich is about to find out. I like the story idea. But the players are going to screw with it. They always do.

Every time they try and head the wrong direction, something (an avalanche blocking the pass/ the assasins or other nasties get real thick) moves them in the right direction.
I led a party into a mess many times by getting them focused on something they wanted to do, but leading them where I wanted them anyway. (the item they decide to look for is in the same dungeon that moves the plot forward)
I have been playing D&D since the Chainmail Rules first came out. Who else remembers what TSR stands for?
