When did the rest of yoyu start playing this wonderful game ? any fond memories of 'early" battles, mistakes, defets?

I Started back with a game called "Battleforce/Battledroids" nigh onto 25 some years ago. the reason was I saw a picture of a Marauder ( 75 ton then ) and loved the way it looked, then read how easy it was to play then ( early box version was I think 3.00$ new)
and the rest as they say is history...

My first, and most memorable experience with Battletech was when I loaded up my father's copy of the Powerhits 3-pack. Second training mission, I took the locust.

When the Snakes destroyed the citadel, I escaped with the Chameleon.

When my Commando was destroyed by a pair of Wasps and a Stinger, my tech salvaged the wrecks to make a Casp (Commando and Wasp).

I lucked out, and it was my Medic who was the traitor. Three 'mechs! Yay!

Sometimes around 1989, I think. One of the guys from my fresh AD&D group bought a used 2nd edition box of BattleTech. Hooray for the crappy translations to Finnish! "Combat game for giant robots."

Mistakes? Let's see, it took us a while to figure out the heat phase correctly. We used to tally up heat and roll for effects before subtracting the functioning heat sinks...

Let's see a box set called Battledroids was a birthday present and after a lot of trail and error my brother and I learned to play it. That was 20 years ago when the original game came and well it was great game and been with it ever since.

Plus it fit into the whole big robot phase, not like I have outgrown that, and my dad was doing one of his okay I know what he likes moments and he picked it out and I think he was very happy given that I was asking for stuff every chance I got. LOL!

20 years of playing Battletech...now that is something to remember well.

roughly 1990, my oldest sisters boyfriend brought it home and taught me how to play.

I started in 1992 in college. First battle ever against my friend who had played it for years. 1 on 1, I was in a dervish and easily killed him. From then on I was hooked.

*looks at mordel join date*

May 11th, This guy from my class at college (Cain) loaned me a copy of mechwarrior 4 and gave me a link to the quick start rules =D

until june we couldnt find any rulebooks, so until then we were winging it without keeping track of heat, having damage take effect part way through the turns, rolling hit locations for each individual lrm missile, not remembering to mark off the ammo, we had no Idea about melee attacks, anything XD

Damn, thats nine moths already?

Oh, about 1988 or 89. Can't recall now. Was looking to expand from AD&D into new games, was a toss up between BattleTech and Robotech. I chose, wisely. Taught my brother to play and then taught my friends to play, started doing odd chores to get money to buy source books for more mechs. Then discovered minis and I was broke for a long time. I used to sculpt the mechs out of clay and fire them in art class, LOL. HArd to get the details right but they looked a lot better than the cardboard things.

Daphne- the Marauder is still 75 tons.

John Casey showed up carrying a box with a weird looking robot on it, and wanted to play that instead of Star Fleet Battles, so we tried it, and had a ball.

No idea how long ago that was though..

1997. I started because I was at a gaming shop looking over OTHER product, and a group of guys came in to play a game. I didn't know what, but I asked if I could watch and the GM asked me if I wanted to JOIN the game instead. So I said yeah, and low and behold I was into battletech. I bought the box set the next week and played with that group every saturday. My biggest mistake was walking a lance of light mechs between 2 buildings that were occupied by hidden units. An Axeman and a Pillager. I got creamed.

1988. I was 4.

My brother's 11th birthday he got it as a present. He tought the other brother first, then 7. Then he refed while Keith and I blew each other apart in separate rooms. (Steve really liked double blind.)

I really liked the picture of the Locust, so I kept using that one. (hey, I couldn't read yet.)

Keith, older and wiser, kept pulling the Battlemaster. I beat him one time in a city. Crit shots from the back, ammo explosions, Keith had Auto-eject on. That was when I was 7, and was probably only the 10th time I'd played (Steve having other friends besides his brothers).

I didn't really get into regular B-Tech games until High School (and even then it was once a month). In college I can play once a week. And with Megamek, provided I don't have work to do, I can play whenever.

I started playing in 1988 I found out about it when a guy I met at work asked me about the four pound hand sledge I carried on my tool belt and I told him that I had it to throw at rats and it could do 2-5 points of damage. That told him that I played D&D which he also played he also played Battletech and introduced me to the game . Incedently I have not played D&D for over 10 yearas now.

I started playing when it was still Battledroids. Thought the game disappeared when FASA got sued by Lucasfillm. Lo and behold, it rose from the ashes to become Battletech.

I remember having all srms hit in the same location and not having a clear concept of the back shot.
