Thing about Alex Kerensky that bugs me is, he was in the Army for like 10 years or so, and became the Supreme Commander of the SLDF! Most officers can't make it past Major in ten years! I mean really! No matter how good you are, after ten years you can't have the training required or the experience to learn enough to be able to command that large a force! And, getting your former leaders to accept thier former lackey as their new Overlord... I don't think so! Sci-fi or not, a little thought by the authors would be nice!

The reason for that rumour (which I'd heard, well, quite a while ago and then forgotten it) is that, as you all may know, FanPro is a German company. And Germany has the 2nd biggest market (or the biggest) for this game. These two reasons mean that FanPro is going to accomodate for the German fans.
And at least 80% (my guesstimation) of German BT gamers are ardent supporters of all things lvl1. By God, so am I! I for one would spend even more money on this game (ie: Unhealthy amounts) if it concentrated itself on the good old days.

Kerensky had some prior history with one of the house militaries, I do believe. Marik or Steiner. There is such a thing as battlefield and Meritorious promotion. If he got a couple ranks that way, especially during war time, it would build a legend around him. The peacetime High rankers would have no problem letting Kerensky run the war. They could easily put him back in a cage once it was over. (Patton comes to mind, I am sure there are others) That could easily be another reason Kerensky Chose to leave. Most folks don't like having to do ordinary stuff after climbing so high.

Okay, I'm looking at the Clans sourcebook. It has a brief overview of his history. He graduated the Nagelring in 2723, and was a Major General by 2733. Even in wartime conditions (which was not his entire ten year carrer to this point) that's a little far fetched! No offence to anyone, but, I do like at least a little realism in my sci-fi!

Not true. I just cook at high heat for a short amount of time
You can ask Hardware about my famous Lamb Shish Ka-Bobs sometime.

I will agree wuth that one, then, 10 years is too short a time. I thought the time was longer for some reason.

Ther is that area above the engine and below the cockpuit the techs call the "hot box" you can set up a slow cooker in there. Toss a roast, some potatoes and carrots in there. Do it right and you may actually eat better in the field than at home.
A hot meal in the field would give you serious leverage with the infantry and such too. It is nice to have some friendlies nearby when you have to punch out.

I'm one hell of a cook, both in the field and at home....SO that's where this came from.

Me:
Kerensky jumped from Captain to Colonel when his regiment hit a hot LZ and all the officers senior to him were killed. He took command, kicked some serious butt, and SLDF HQ decided to let the brevet promotion to colonel stick. Kerensky had already made Captain fairly quick since he was so talented, etc. , and this jump to Colonel and Regiment command made him a legend. This only took just a few of those 10 years we are looking at. The remaining promotions came through ability, time in grade, and his legend status. A bit of a stretch of reality, but it is conceiveable.
All of this info is in a sourcebook somewhere, but I'm too lazy to go look it up. I think it is the old Star League book that had this stuff in it.

Yes that is very much the case. It is a German Company with a German market and they still love Lvl 1 over there. Nothing wrong with that, at all.
As to what they want to do, or will be able to do, very much in the air.
As to the time line moving forward... to what? An era of peace and prosperity that lasts two generations before the begining of wars all over again?
Unless FP is allowed to do a parallel time line, as Traveller did many years ago... we know the future... and some of us do not like to know the future. But alas there are other games... unless a lot of thigns get corrected, like quality.
