BattleMech: King Crab KGC-000
Rating: 2.00
Comment: This is like a mech a 12 year old would use. I'm not innocent of this mentality either; when I first started playing I thought 100 ton mechs with A/C 20s were the best you could get, until I realized that no one with half a brain will let you get within 6 hexes and with a 100 tonner's speed you'll never be able to chase them down. I'm a firm believer in the principle that if you're going to make a mech that relies on short-range weapons, it has to be fast so it can actually get in close (like the Cauldron-Born and Penetrator for example). Meanwhile Madcats and Masakaris eat the King Crab alive with their PPCs and ER large lasers while safely keeping out of the range of its big guns. Nearly every time it's used this mech just ends up wandering the map like a drunk, trying desperately to come to grips with someone to shoot the autocannons at.

Plus the King Crab gives the Urbanmech some pretty good competition for worst looking mech in the Inner Sphere.

BattleMech: Goshawk (Vapor Eagle)
Rating: 5.00
Comment: This is one of the best stock mechs in the game, along with the Daishi A and Viper. Just look at its battle value (over 2100), it's off the scale for a mech of this weight. The Goshawk is incredibly effective and creates all kinds of mismatches for an Inner Sphere opponent-it's fast and manuverable enough to go where ever it pleases, and has more than enough firepower to flatten any Inner Sphere light or medium mech. This is just a really great design, although it has too many weapons and not enough heat sinks to fire them all, so I like to drop one of the medium pulse lasers to add a couple more heat sinks.

BattleMech: Viper (Black Python)
Rating: 5.00
Comment: Yes this mech is a little "too good" and won't make you any friends if you use it, as has been stated in the previous reviews. But as far as just rating this as a mech design it gets a 5 since no one can deny that it is one of the best mechs in the game. Just don't use it too often or you run the risk of turning people off to the game. At least it's a "stock" design so you won't be accused of being a huge nerd when you kick everyone's butt with it.

BattleMech: Atlas AS7-K
Rating: 1.50
Comment: This is an upgrade? They leave the same amount of SINGLE heat sinks, add heat-intense ER L. Lasers, throw in an expensive and vulnerable XL engine, and top it off with the near useless Inner Sphere AMS. All that does is make this mech barely better than the old 3025 Atlas, but with nearly triple the cost!

Get rid of the XL engine, change the heat sinks to double, and swap the AMS for more sinks and you have a very solid mech.

BattleMech: Awesome AWS-9M
Rating: 1.00
Comment: Is it just me or is the 3050 technical readout full of crappy "upgrades" of old Inner Sphere mechs? This one is especially poor since I don't even think it is as good as the old 3025 Awesome, yet it costs twice as much and is more vulnerable thanks to its XL engine. It's faster, but I don't remember speed ever being a problem with the Awesome given its intended role. The old Awesome could fire its three PPCs 3-3-2 without any penalties from overheating. This one can't even fire all three in one turn with suffering a penalty. In addition, this mech has an ineffective mish-mash of generally crappy weapons for its secondary armament. Overall, compared to the old mech it is "upgrading" this one is more vulnerable, more expensive, and in the long has less firepower (unless you overheat like a madman). A great example of bad mech design.

BattleMech: Daishi (Dire Wolf) A
Rating: 5.00
Comment: This is generally believed to be the best mech in the game and rightfully so. With full armor and a perfectly balanced arsenal of great clan weapons no other mech can touch the Daishi. I prefer my variant however which removes the AMS, AMS ammo, 2 heatsinks, and half a ton of armor to put in a targeting computer.

The only downside to this mech is after you play with it for a little while everyone will groan when you say you're choosing it and insist you pick something else. It's always fun though to see how many Inner Sphere mechs you can gang up on it and still have a fair fight.

BattleMech: Exterminator EXT-4A
Rating: 1.50
Comment: Who the hell thought this mech up? I'm supposed to believe this pile of crap takes out command mechs? A commander's Battlemaster would flick this thing like a booger. In its intended role the Exterminator is a complete failure, and as far as a 5/8/5 mech there are far better designs out there.

BattleMech: Fafnir FNR-5
Rating: 3.50
Comment: The Fafnir is strictly a heavy/assault mech killer, and can devastating if adequately supported and protected. The Heavy Gauss rifles do more damage than AC/20s with double the range. If used properly the Fafnir can take on even the toughest of clan mechs, which obviously was its intended role. That being said, if this mech is not supported by others or the Fafnir is on its own it's pretty much ineffective, since if it has to constantly fire it's big guns at smaller mechs harassing it then its effectiveness is diluted.

BattleMech: Hunchback HBK-5M
Rating: 0.00
Comment: Wow. What a truely horrible and unrealistic design. 5 shots for its main weapon? What kind of nut would pilot this? An M1 Abrams tank has 40 rounds for its main gun, and this super futuristic and far more expensive battlemech only has 5! Unbelievable. Fred Sanford could have built a better battlemech out of stuff in his junkyard.

BattleMech: Marauder IIC 2
Rating: 4.00
Comment: I really like this seldom-seen mech. It has a lot of firepower, and yes, the range is less than your typical PPC-carrying Maurader, but thats what the ER Large Laser and jump jets are there for; you blast away with the ER L. Laser while jumping in close. Further, I would like to point out to those of you who don't think much of this mech that it is dirt cheap for a clan mech. Hell, it costs less than many level 2 inner sphere mechs and it can tear them apart. Yes, this isn't the best clan mech out there but as far as bang for your buck I've seen none better.

I personally love using this as a flanking mech, as it can easily get into the enemies' rear with its jump jets and is hard to deal with due to its armor and great firepower. And for considerably less than the price of a single Madcat you can have a pair of these on your flanks!
