BattleMech: PEST PEST-A2
Rating: 4.00
Comment: Yet another Hussar clone. However this one is well executed. A bit slower but better armed and armored. The speed combined with the latent accuracy from the TC makes this a rather deadly sniping platform. Not much wrong with it other than the lack of backup weaponry. The Hussar could get away without backup weapons because it's armor was so thin any hit that could knock out it's main weapon would also likely be knocking out the mech as well. The Pest has the armor to withstand a couple hits from major weapons and keep bookin' it.

BattleMech: Commando COM-3E
Rating: 3.50
Comment: Okay I like the upgrade here. The loss of 9 armor points is offset by the addition of a heatsink. Yes the extra heatsink is worth it!! How many times have I been in a battle where I've wished for just one more dang heatsink? Too many unfortunately. That one heatsink can mean the differencee later in the battle in what you fire and how long you can fire it.

BattleMech: Commando COM-4E

Comment: Again, nice upgrade. I like the armor upgrade and that you kept the regular fusion engine. I'm not liking the ER medium or the 4 jumpjets. Perhaps if you dropped a ton of armor for the extra 2 jumpjets, or dropped the jumpjets for another medium laser or two. Other than that I like this mech. Good range and endurance, no ammo concerns or heat problems. But I just keep coming back to the jumping MP's. I'm not a fan of the reduced jumping like the old Shadow Hawk and Jenner. And I still do not think the extra heat is worth the range increase for the ER mediums.

BattleMech: Atlas AS7-Z
Rating: 3.50
Comment: I love the fluff!!

Good firepower and excellent armor coverage. Nice choice in weaponry. One thing though, I don't think the rear facing medium lasers should have been relocated to forward facing arcs. Now this mech has a blind spot. Not a good thing on such a slow mech. Also why not mounnt 2 small lasers in place of the flamer? Or another medium? Other than that, I like this. It can still overheat but it's managable.

BattleMech: Marauder MAD-5Y-C
Rating: 4.00
Comment: This is a good Marauder upgrade. I have piloted this mech recently and fouunnd it very effective. I also found it hard to overheat (took me 7 rounds of alpha-strikes to do it too) and good at dishing the damage out. Mobility is good for it's size and the armor is great. Only bad point I could find was it has too much ammo for it's streak launchers. You could drop at least one ton of ammo for something else, say a medium class laser or upgrading the small.

BattleMech: Basilisk BSL-1K
Rating: 2.50
Comment: I'd like this mech more except for one thing, the 2 jumpjets. The weapons loadout is nice, the armor is okay, the speed is average....about what you'd expect of a level 1 front line heavy. I don't buy the direct fire support role, the longest range you have is 15 hexes. That puts you pretty much on the line with the sluggers. For the support role drop one or both of your main weapons for a longer reaching one. At least 18 hexes for the range. This would pair well with the TDR-5S Thunderbolt though. BUt those jumpjets are killling me. (Did you put them there on purpose just to vex me? lol) Drop em for armor or a third medium laser. Another thing, I like the rear facing laser, not many designs mouunt them and they come in handy more than most think.

BattleMech: Sprinter Original

Comment: Kinda mixed feelings here. I love the speed and jumping ability. I, personally do not like the weapons choices. IMO, the ER mediums are too hot for this design. The extra range is superfluous on a design that can go 8/12/8. The armor is great and the speed is awesome. Perhaps if you down grtgaded it to 7/11/7 and use the extra tonnage to revamp the weapon systems....perhaps a pulse laser to help with targeting an opponent during full jumps. They have a shorter range but you have the speed to compensate. Mayhap drop a ton of armor. Nah scratch that, a Lyran wouldn't drop armor.

BattleMech: Commando COM-2E
Rating: 3.00
Comment: Something to ponder...This is the original configuration of the Commando. The large laser was replaced because it's heat kept breaking down the lubricants in the wrist actuators. That was back in 2463.

I like this design. It's a little heat innefficient, but back then not many were. The armor is more than adequate for it's size and era. The speed is merely adequate. The range and damage this Commando has puts it a bit ahead of other designs of similar tonnage. I think if you dropped a ton of armor for another heatsink it would make this a better design, but that's just me.
On a side note, this seems like a Panther that someone reduced the firepower by a little to increase speed a lot.

BattleMech: Razorback RZK-10D
Rating: 3.00
Comment: Okay, not too bad. Fast with long strike capabilities. No hands so perhaps a light support mech? While not hard hitting it is a flexible design with many applications for use. Support, fast strike, raids, rear guard, scout hunter, scout/recon, etc..

On a side note, if you take an Assassin and drop it's jumpjets and 10 tons you'd get this.

BattleMech: Kampfer KAM-18E
Rating: 3.50
Comment: Nice design. Good mobility, good armor and managable heat scale. The firepower is a bit on the low side but can be maintained until the weapon is dissabled or the mech is.

Side note: The first mech ever was produced in 2439 by the Terran Hegemony. It is the famous Mackie class. Mech developement started to explode in the 2500's and 2600's. It came almost to a stand still in the early 2800's and has only started to revive in the early 3000's.
