Overview:
The rediscovery of autocannons was perhaps one of the most important moments in Kothnorian
military history, a fact that the Gladius Jiàn II represents perfectly. A direct upgrade to
the original Gladius Jiàn in every way, the GDJ-II-49A sacrifices neither speed nor
protection while replacing the pitiful Legio Heavy Engineering "Demo II" medium rifle with
the newly developed Dominus Arms "Tempestus V" Autocannon 5, removing the Legio Heavy
Engineering "Pillum" Machine Gun as well in the process to save space and cement Dominus
Arms as the sole weapons manufacturer for the project. A fact they flaunt to this day.
Despite the seemingly insignificant nature of the GDJ-II-49A compared to any design from the
inner sphere, effects it had on Kothnorian military operations cannot be understated. With
almost double the damage potential of the old GDJ-39A and with range equal to the HTM-37A,
this single unit quickly replaced both roles and left the aforementioned predecessors to be
viewed as leftovers for garrison duty or reservist equipment. The original Gladius Jiàn,
especially, was completely phased out of production in the aftermath as it was doomed to be
from the start.
In the field, the GDJ-II-49A is met with similar enthusiasm by troops as it was by staff.
Deployed in large numbers thanks to its affordable and simple design, the massed fire of one
or more lances worth of AC/5s has repeatedly succeeded where older units never could. The
only potential flaw of this seemingly flawless unit was, ironically, the result of these
repeated successes as commanders and grunts alike began to over-rely on what remained little
more than a decent medium tank with an AC/5.
