The AS8-K Atlas is an assault 'mech built by the WOB with captured clan tech. The sole prototype was recently captured by the Iron Titans Mercenary command during a planetary assault on Giausar in 3068. (Notes from the creator: This 'mech was created to have 38 tons of hardened armor, which effectively gives it twice as much armor as the stats say. It is also a mixed design, with a streak LRM 20, a laser AMS, a bloodhound probe, an angel ECM suite, and null-sig. There is CASE II in the empty slots in the right and left torsos. The cockpit is armored. Cost: 85,974,000.) |
| This 'mech was created on the principle that the best offense is defense, especially when that defense is armed with a gauss rifle. It was designed to be able to stand up to anything short of a full power bombardment from an orbiting warship and keep fighting. The 'mech is armed with upgraded versions of the AS7-K's weapons, along with some extra equipment. With the experimental bloodhound probe, it is almost impossible to surprise the AS8-K. Null-signature was added almost as an afterthought, allowing the 'mech some long-range protection at a cost in heat efficiency. Pilots usually activated the null-sig while in a forest, and waited for an enemy to come by. When this occured, the Atlas would leap out of hiding and attempt to knock the opposing 'mech off its feet, then core it with a targeted weapons barrage. |
| Only one AS8-K was ever created, and that prototype is currently under the command of Brigadier General James Davis of the Iron Titans Mercenary command. The Iron Titans are, as often as possible, taking assignments against the Word of Blake. |
| There were schematics for the creation of a close combat variant, the AS8-D, which would mount a heavy autocannon instead of the gauss rifle, but this variant was never produced. |
| Brigadier General James Davis: A noble-born mechwarrior, Davis served faithfully and tenaciously in the AFFS, and eventually left to form the Iron Titans mercenary command. Lately, he replaced his damaged Daishi with the captured AS8-K prototype during the assault on Giausar, and promptly destroyed a WOB Banshee and Pegasus tank in an ambush using the null-sig, taking an amazingly small amount of damage thanks to his hardened armor. |

Ah, yes... mixed technology. How much I hate those muchkin-smelling creations. Not only that this thing takes the best clantech and IS thingies and combines them in one rather strange whole, but it also looks like certain player was able to talk his GM into giving him a rather unbalanced item... Oh well, I'm to rate 'Mech, not the motives behind it's construction... there is no mixed tech present on the 'Mech at the moment by the way.
The 'Mech can't handle the heat produced by it's weapons and without any meaningful brackets, which is a shame, but at the moment it's the only problem with the 'Mech aside from it being just another Atlas IIC around.
If it really had all those things you've named in fluff, it would be grossly overweight, overheating and yet somewhat under-gunned. The fluff could use some rework, but I don't think that would save the design from mediocrity. Have some ambition and try something new! You have the talent! ;) |
