A friend of mine brought his copy Farcry, a new shooter, over to me yesterday and man it is nice. Best looking terrain and foliage I've seen yet in a shooter. You want to crawl through the jungle, hidden from view, in this game you can, and you won't be able to see 2 feet in front of you while doing it too.

The terrain is great, all kinds of possibilites, there are many places where you and the enemy can take advantage of the terrain. The AI does well too. In WWII shooters I've played lately, the computer enemies will take cover, but usually after you hit them. These guys, when they see you, get behind the tree FIRST, and THEN they start shooting at you. Last night before I stopped I even encounted dudes with assault rifles in one hand and bullet proof shields in the other.

The vehicles and boats, and the weapons on them look good and drive great. And when you see wreckage of japanese airplanes in the jungle, you'll be impressed, with the wrecked fortresses too. And when you round the point or emerge from the jungle and see the wreckage of the beached light carrier you'll go oooh. (The sillouette, the flight deck are accurately done too, that's what a japanese light carrier looked like.

I was running on a 512 med 1300 speed machine with most things set to low or medium and it still looked great to me. Only problem I had was the movie on entering the carrier, I was crashing to desktop. So I set it all to low, got through the movie, set the medium things back to medium, and haven't had a crash since.

You won't get 2 pistols, alas. But you do get the Pancor Jackhammer shotgun, a couple of SMGs, and some assorted assault rifles. The sniper rifle is a .50 cal with a great scope. To get good aim though, you have to be prone or the scope will move around too much.

Fun is stalking through the dark jungle with a sound suppressed MP-5 set on single-shot, tapping the mercenaries in the head. Crawl, crawl, rustle, crawl...aim...TAP...thud.
